Q. Do these support Cisco® access points?
A. You can connect an access point to it, but one thing to keep in mind is that the dow nlink ports are 100M.
Q. What is the startup cost for this type of environment?
A. Can you please send an email to hmehra@cisco.com, and he can provide you data on this?
Q. I understand it is LAN Lite. Does it still support standard CLI commands, VLANs, and interface trunks
and access modes?
A. Yes, it does. All the LAN Lite features. Keep in mind is that it’s an L2 sw itch, not L3.
Q. Is the point of this solution to reduce the number of individual power cables/sources to various devices
found in a typical building and create a low -voltage solution to these same devices with additional services
and functionality?
A. The point is to converge the nontraditional IP endpoints to an IP netw orkand provide low -voltage infra, w hich is
more safe and cheaper.
Q. Electrical is typically in conduit. Does this cabling require cable in conduit?
A. Sw itches w ould still need AC pow er supply, but the sw itch gives out DC pow er to the endpoints via RJ45 cables.
Q. What are PoE current ratings per port and per device?
A. You can do 60W per port or 30W per port depending on w hich model of CDB sw itch you deploy.
Q. Can you provide a link that explains how the APIC-EM segments the various IoTs and protects the rest
of the infrastructure?
A. You can leverage the Cisco TrustSec® infrastructure w ith APIC-EM to create security policies to segment the
netw ork.
Q. Will there be models with more than eight ports?
A. We are looking at that possibility.

Q. Will there be a version that has fiber uplinks rather than copper? We manage shopping malls and put
cameras on our anchor stores needing 60 watts of power that is over 300 feet from the core or nearest IDF.
A. We have received this feedback from a lot of customers and partners. We are evaluating this option.
Q. Is the small port density on this device cost effective when installing thousands of lights in a building?
A. Yes, primarily because these sw itches are cheap. Alternatively, w e have a rack mount that comes w ith these
sw itches that can provide physical port density.
Q. Why only eight ports?
A. We w anted to start w ith something w ith a form factor that w ould sit above the ceiling.
Q. Any roadmap for a version with 1000-Mb interfaces or even Mgig?
A. We are evaluating these options.
Q. What are some of the tested endpoints (IoT)?
A. Lighting has been elaborately tested for these sw itches.
Q. What is the cost of the switches?
A. We're still in the NTE pricing stage, but under $1500 for the UPOE sw itch (eight ports) and under $900 for the
PoE sw itch (eight ports).
Q. You mentioned smart cabling. What options are available (for example, laptop chargers and phone
chargers)? What is considered smart cabling?
A. Smart cabling is the PoE cabling. We have many accessory manufacturers looking to put splitters and so on
w ith the sw itch so that w e can have USBC charging.
Q. How are these switches being integrated into the electrical systems, and how are the switches being
powered?
A. The sw itches are pow ered by AC input.
Q. What is the advantage of using this device as compared to using a standard PoE switch with much
higher port density?
A. Cost is one. This is purpose built for low -voltage building deployments. But this is not meant for high–netw ork
traffic transactions. We made this for lighting, HVAC, and so on. Please send me an email on
