AUGMENTECHTURE - 3D Projection of Building Construction Floor Plan using Mark...vivatechijri
Nowadays, due to rising growth in all sectors, be it in healthcare, infrastructure, finance, education, and logistics, etc. Even though in the era of smart technology constructors, builders are using the old-style method, i.e., usage of brochures by generating 2D sketches of project layout. Builders use these files to sell their construction sites like flats, buildings, or any property to clients by just showing them various floor Plans in multiple views, etc. This procedure aims to be unproductive and ineffective because it does not give a clear idea regarding how exactly the property will look like. Augmented Reality, as shifting to a new developing technology, it gives an entirely new outlook for development. The AR implementation offers many advantages for construction planning, which will help our customers to draw a clear view regarding the assets before making deals without actually visiting the sample flats. To develop an AR-based brochure as a development tool that will serve as an application to intelligently increase the clients by minimizing their efforts and easing their decisionmaking process and maximizing the complete efficiency.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

3. Abstract
Through this term paper, we are trying to identify and analyze one successful and one unsuccessful
technology transfer under digital innovation sector. We studied how the technology has been transferred
and how it has been implemented under the digital innovation sector. Along with this we have analyzed
the reasons for making a technology a successful transfer and an unsuccessful transfer.
This case study will examine successful technology transfer in power sector by Schneider Electric and
further suggest few enhancements the company could adopt according to us. We will investigate the root
cause for failure of technology transfer in Google Glass and recommend few corrective actions.
Google Glass: A Failed Innovation
1.0 Need for IT enabled solutions and its growth
Information Technology may be defined as “the technology involving the development, maintenance,
and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data.” Ever
since its evolution, IT enabled tools have solved numerous complex problems and devised better ways
of doing things. Waves of innovation build over time, empowered further capabilities of the technology
to address complex issues. In its early days, IT was used mainly for defense and complex computational
purposes only but later it was demanded by many sectors. In India, IT registered faster IT growth
comparing to the world (Exhibit-1) and currently a leading country especially in IT service sector
(Exhibit-2). Such continuous growth shows that there has been always a need for IT enabled solution
and most of them were disruptive ones driven by continuous innovations in this field. Pioneer IT
companies have believed in the sustaining technology which means the technologies that their customers
needed (Proncipal#1 of disruptive innovation)
2.0 Evolution of hands-free technology
Hands-free term refers to the equipment that can be used without involving hands or, equipment which
needs limited use of hands. This means that the equipment is placed in such a way that hands are able
to perform any other task simultaneously along with using such devices. Such devices typically use
Bluetooth as wireless technology, generally in conjunction with smartphone. Hands-free technology is
Page 3
4. one of most convenient innovations of this era. Many such devices work on voice commands which
implies that users don’t need to even swipe or touch a button. It is disruptive innovation which enhanced
human capabilities and indeed a good example of human augmentation.
3.0 Range of Google product and its penetration in the market
Ever since its launch in 1997, Google Search engine has been leading the market with a share of 88.47
percent (April 2019). The very mission of Google is to consolidate the information available in the
world’s and make it available for everyone to use. Google is heavily relying upon crowd sourcing which
enables bidirectional exchange of information. Google has launched many IT products, to name a few:
Google Images: Used to search images
YouTube: A Video library.
Google News: A searchable news service in more than 20 languages.
Google Finance: A business news portal for USA.
Google Shopping: An online store for shopping as well as auctions.
Google Books: A collection of books with search facility.
Google Patents: A searchable portal for patents.
Google Scholar: A collection of papers, articles for scholars with search facility.
Google Hotel Finder: Used to search for hotels.
Google Assistant: A voice enabled search engine.
Google Flights: A portal for flights status.
Google Groups: For online discussion and mailing.
Google Translate: Translate one language to another
(Source: www.google.com and www.wikipedia.come)
Ever since beginning Google raised above the prevalent strategy of ‘buy what we have’ to the more
customer oriented connected strategy. One hand Google has come up with IT enabled products like
Google news, Google books, Google hotel finders etc. by truly understanding customer’s specific need
and following the strategy of ‘Respond to Desire’. Other hand it adopted ‘coach behavior’ and ‘curated
offering’ through customized products like Google map, navigation and Google translate. Google can
synergize both disruptive and non-disruptive technology through array of its products. Now Google is
Page 4
5. integrating all its products in the form of G-suite heavily using the emerging technology of Big Data and
Machine Leaning.
4.0 Conceptualization, genesis and features of Google Glass
Google glass, launched in May 2014, is a wearable eye glass like hands-free android device specifically
designed to display requested information right in the user’s vision area. It was an exclusive product of
Google’s long-term R&D plan amalgamating virtual reality and augmented reality. The device was
completely hands-free, and it enables users to have all smart phone functions by voice command or
simple swipe/tap of finger. It was supposedly a bold and revolutionary step by Google to take the world
a step ahead in the information age. It is a computing device and users can perform these 7 main
operations:
Click photographs
Video recording
Information about direction
Messaging
Telephone calls
Use of Hangouts messenger and Google+
Search engine
At the time of launch, device’s cost was 1500 US dollars in USA and around Rs.80,000 in India. In
respect of augmented reality, it was indeed a disruptive technology with immense potentials of its
applicability in medical, educational and many other sectors.
The Google glass works on Android operating system which can run application virtualization tools
called ‘Glassware’. This glassware delivers an app to the users which enables performing above
mentioned tasks. The Bluetooth and Wi-fi options are built-in with the Google glass and having a
camera for clicking pictures and recording video. There is a component called smart eyewear which
processes the commands given by users by recognizing motion and voice. The google glass consists of
small touchpad on its rim. The field sequential color (FSC) liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) system is
used and the requested information is furnished on the micro projector. Finally, information is displayed
on the lens of Google glass having resolution of 640×360 pixels and it gives feeling of 25-inch screen
viewed from 8 feet. FSC is color television system whereas the LCOS is a type of video display

6. technology. The most exceptional feature of divide is the abovementioned lens located on the right
corner of the glass. Surprisingly, this screen covers only 5% of the vision of the user and transmits
valuable information in the form of image/videos to the user.
Some of the distinguishing features of Google Glass are stated below:
Hand free control of technology
Multitasking
Easy to use
Look Stylish
Sleek Design
Voice command user Interface
Blink Technology
Real time information
On demand information
Use internet always available in front of your eyes
Easy Communication
Take photo with the blink of your eyes

7.0 Google Glass Lunch and Marketing strategy
Invention of Google Glass was an amazing technological achievement of Google. It was not just a
regular glass, it put a computer in front of eye, more over Google tried to create human computer
interface. Google could not sell the product in mass market, let’s try to analyze some of the reasons. We
feel particularly for Google Glass, the fundamental of Marketing was not followed by Google because
of the following reason:
7.1 Basics of Sales Marketing and Advertisement not followed
The basic of marketing says when you launch a product it should be available physically, people should
see and feel the product. Google launched the Google Glass first on virtual platform. The product was
launched only on online platform, for the early adopted and the product was not launched in any
physical store, average user can not touch, feel and see the product. Google also did not provide any
date, when an average user could purchase it.
7.2 No Effective Advertising Campaign
When you launch a new product for global market, it must be supported by effective Advertising
Campaign. Google thought the early adopter will advertise for them, instead early adopter given very
negative opinion of the product.
7.3 No effective communication to customers.
As no effective Advertising Campaign was followed by Google, they could not explain User, what was
the benefit of the product. When a new product is launched, companies must provide detailed value
chain to the customer. How the product can solve customer problem.
7.4 No Easy Buying Options
When Google Launched the product, it was not available for purchase, it was available to few people
only, after a few months the product was distributed through physical Outlets, was also available on
online platform. When the product was finally distributed in stores, the launch enthusiasm and energy
has been lost.
Page 9
10. 8.0 Root cause of Google Glass Failure
In this section we will study and analyze the reason Google Glass failed in mass consumer market Now
the question, is the Google really failed product? To find out the answer we have studied Google Glass
technology with a wide-angle lens. Google glass technology was a very innovative, futuristic
technology. The product has been developed after many years of scientific research. With a human
centric design and a computer to human interface, google glass promised future opportunities to
uncover, which we are not able to imagine till now. After studying the Google Glass technology, it
cannot be concluded that it is a failed product. We will do a justice to Google Glass if we say, it failed
to attract consumers as expected. Google glass is a visionary, innovative and a futuristic product, the
fact is that it failed to attract consumer because of following main reasons:
8.1 User preference
Designer of google glass did not taken into account of average user preferences. Though the product is a
technologically advanced, it was a very uncomfortable product to wear. Google Glass failed to attract
the Gen X, Gen Y and Millennials. This generation found the Google Glass did not supplement their
fashion requirements. Further, the diehard apple user found Apple watch more comfortable to wear, its
supplement their requirement of a watch, easy to use, more functionality. Principal #1 of disruptive
innovation clearly envisage that companies depend on customers and investors for resources, seems to
be undermined. Further they couldn’t analyze the market of google glass which was not existing at that
time (Principal#3 of Disruptive Innovation)
8. 2 Hyped technology
The google glass was a much-hyped product, user did not find a real-world application, there is many
potential industrial uses of google glass, for average user, the technology was unusable in real world.
The Glass was costly, initial version was priced at $1500. But it did not offer any breakthrough
technology, user can use in daily life.
8.3 Value Proposition
Early adopter of the Google Glass did not find any meaningful benefit of the product. The early adopter of
the product found that they were able to scroll internet, but it lacked many functionalities of smart
Page 10
11. phone, tab or desktop/laptop. Google Glass did not solve any of the real-world problems significantly.
Google glass tried to find some industrial use, but it failed to customize it to the industrial requirements.
Google failed to educate consumer that why did they need the Google Glass, what values the glass
would provide. In absence of information on what problem the glass would solve, customer started
thinking ‘is it worth to invest in Google Glass?’
8.4 Design issue
Average users find there are only few functionalities of the product such as browsing internet,
scrolling pages over internet, taking photograph etc. are only of their use.
8.5 Battery Issue
The battery was too week, which could last only for 2 to 3 hours and after this the product is unusable.
This was a major technological glitch in the product.
8.6 Slow Processor
The processor of the Google Glass was very slow as compared to advances smartphone. User
found Google Glass is sluggish and speed lags compared to smartphone.
8.7 Use of Google Glass
Google did not have clarity about the potential customer who will use it. They failed to identify the
target customer, whether it will be for average user or industrial user. Google did not develop enough
support for technology and application for different categories of customer.
8.8 Sales and Marketing issue
The 1
st
version of Google Glass i.e. the Google Glass Explorer was not available for sell on normal
retail platform rather it was available for purchase on online platform, exclusive to tech geeks and
journalist. Who could not find a real-world use of the product and gave various negative feedback
about the product?
8.9 Wrong Pricing Strategy
The initial price of Google Glass was $1500. User did not find any real-world use of Google Glass
after spending $1500, they did not even find that the product solves any real-world problem. They
shared their initial experience in various platforms, including social platform. This added to the
problem of Google Glass outreach in the market. The negative feedback from the initial adopter kept
away the average user from buying Google Glass.
Page 11
12. 8.10 Socially unacceptable to wear Google glass with a camera.
Many early users found it is socially unacceptable to wear a spectacle with a build in camera. In
many socially sensitive places, use of camera is unacceptable. The Google Glass raised many
privacy and security question. The Google Glass can click photographs and record video anywhere.
8.11 Safety and Health Concerns
Google Glass continuously emits microwaves radiation near head. User were concerned about the safety
of the Google Glass. User were aware of harmful effect of a device which will continuously emits
microwave radiation near the head. The smartphone already emits microwave radiation and Google
Glass would further add radiation.
9.0 Conclusion and Recommendation for Google
Google glass technology was indeed a very innovative and futuristic. The product has been developed
after many years of scientific research by Google X Department, with a human centric design and a
computer to human interface, Google Glass promised future opportunities to uncover, which we are not
able to imagine till now. They should have done intensive research on average users, how they feel to
wear the product, detailed observation of user and redesign the product as per user requirement. Google
should have understood the real-world benefit of the product and communicated to potential customer
effectively through effective advertisement and innovative marketing. Google has very large customer
base and they are champion of crowd sourcing, so it would be easier for them to effectively
communicate with them.
Following strategy may be adopted by Google for way forward:
Analysis of customers’ need and focus on problem solving
Thorough application of Principals of Disruptive Innovation
Right mix of curated offering and coach behavior
Minimize the health hazard through further R&D
Improvement in the product design by more customization/specific functionality for different customers
Affordability of price for average users
Learning from other such failed innovation
Appropriate marketing strategy

Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) - A Successful
Innovation
1.0 Country’s Energy Scenario, Demand and Potentials
Power is an essential infrastructure for the country's social and economic growth and development. Even
though Power Sector since the Independence has recorded significant growth, the present scenario is
characterized by substantial peaking and energy shortages as demand for electricity has consistently
outstripped the supply.
According to the planning commission, the country's power capacity has risen at 5.87% over the past 25
years, with power supply increasing by 7.2% over the same period. As of 1 January 2007, the total
capacity was 1.27.925 MW. Power shortages continue to rise, with a maximum shortage of 11.7% and a
power shortfall of 7.3% during the 2005 fiscal year (14% and 8.8% respectively for the April to
December 2006 period). The country's 606-kilowatt hour per unit electricity consumption is one of the
lowest in the world.
2.0 Various Power Losses
Total losses in the distribution network are captured by AT&C loss. Technical loss can be caused by
poorly maintained machinery, substations and insufficient infrastructure investment, while business loss
can be caused by low metering effectiveness, defective meter reading, robbery and theft.
To achieve this, the sub-transmission and distribution system of high-density load centers such as cities
and industrial centers was strengthened and upgraded.
3.0 Government’s Initiatives
In 2008, India's government in the field of electrification launched the Restructured Accelerated Power
Development and Reform Program (R-APDRP) as an Additional Central Assistance to States to
minimize the Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses occurs in the field of power sector
and to improve the quality and reliability of power supply to consumers.
Page 13
14. 4.0 Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Program (R-APDRP)
R-APDRP's (Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Program) focus is on reduction
in real and evident power losses (Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses). This is done in two
components: Part A of the system provides for the establishment of base line information including
customer indexing, GIS mapping and metering of distribution transformers and feeders and Part B, the
SCADA/DMS (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System/Data Management System) in project
fields with 4 lakhs+ population density and 350MU annual input energy. This system also involves and
provides energy accounting and auditing, consumer service based on IT applications and infrastructure.
5.0 Application of SCADA system in Power Distribution
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a system which is used in industry where
automation is done. Such industries are water treatment plant, automobile, process automation, energy
automation etc. This system allows digital inputs, digital outputs, analog inputs and analog outputs to
gather, process and display in large video displays.
The data is processed and gathered at the real time for monitoring and controlling of points that transmit
data. It receives information from the remote terminal units and programmable logic controllers and
uses human machine interface so that the humans can interact with the devices installed at remote
locations. In power system SCADA is used to analyze, monitor and control the data effectively making
the power more reliable and efficient. This in turn improves the efficiency of the entire system by
saving time and money.
6.0 Evolution of the technology ‘Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS)’
High penetration of distributed energy resources and the ever more dynamic nature of distribution
systems are creating many difficulties for the energy providers. In order to deal with these tremendous
modifications, they need to play an active part in controlling their systems and adapt in real time to
different circumstances. Only an extensive set of specialized software instruments that are incorporated
into a robust solution can manage these difficulties and guarantee a smooth transition – from traditional
Page 14
15. paper intensive procedures to digital and adaptive real-time grid management. An Advanced
Distribution Management System (ADMS) is now offering these capacities.
ADMS offers a complete platform with a flexible and multipurpose framework within a common and
simple user interface, data model, suitable environment for integration and safe as well as stable setup,
using advanced DMS application to improve network operations, coupled with a SCADA monitoring
and control system, EMS for transmission activities, and optimized OMS for improved flexibility and
efficiency. The benefits of using ADMS are as follows:
Provides consistent, coherent and instantaneous; prediction and historical perspectives of the
distribution network.
Requires network controllers, dispatchers, field crews, planning engineers, performance consultants and
administrators to work as a team to use the same grid information as operated.
Common situational knowledge offers effective and reliable grid operations management in the face of
a varied and quickly evolving setting.
Enabling higher network reliability, improved operating effectiveness, decreased operating costs,
increased safety and security, regulatory compliance support, better use of assets and integration based
on standards.
7.0 ADMS – A sustainable technology for power distribution and management
Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) is a series of software designed for the efficient
and reliable management and regulation of the whole distribution network.
Major Functions:
SCADA
Decision Support for Control room operators
Improving the reliability
Minimizing outage time
Load Shedding

16. 8.0 Successful Implementation of ADMS in State of Bihar
First GoLive Bihar Project. In August 2016, Bihar's Chief Minister inaugurated the first SCADA-DMS
control center, undertaken by Schneider Electric (SE) in India. The ADMS system communicated with a
bigger part of the network during the inauguration, which was the first GoLive attempt on the Bihar
project (from the R-APDRP program). This project undertakes energy surveillance, control and
modernization of the Patna electrical distribution network and its scope involves DMS control center,
grid modernization, current and new substation automation, telecommunications network, integration of
GIS mapping, efficient exchange of customer care information and accounting data etc. The project will
modernize the electrical distribution network of Patna by deploying a smart grid and applying the
sophisticated SCADA-DMS management scheme for more than 53 substations.
