This document provides the agenda for a class, which includes checking Tumblr blogs, discussing an Iron Man papercraft activity, sharing directions for assembling the papercraft, and homework assignments. Students are asked to have completed several blog posts on their Tumblrs. For an activity, students printed and assembled a paper Iron Man model with no directions, and are instructed to write directions for the next person. As homework, students will print another model, share their written directions with another person to assemble it, and then write a summary of the experience evaluating the directions and the other person's assembly process. Students are also to complete reading and resume/cover letter assignments.

3. Tumblrs
I started grading the Tumblrs over the weekend, and I
held off mentioning this Tuesday to make sure that I
got a chance to talk to the people who weren’t on the
blogroll yet. But some of you don’t have all your
entries. I’m offering one time amnesty! If you get
caught up by 11:59 PM on Monday (this coming
Monday) I will consider everything on the Tumblr on
time.

4. You should have

set 5 goals for class. (for week one)

5. And now…
What I had you print for today is a papercraft Iron-
Man designed by a guy named Gus Santome. He runs a
blog at http://minipapercraft.blogspot.com/ where he
churns these out. If you were diligent and printed
yours for today, though, you see something
interesting: there are no directions.

6. Activity: we keep foldin’
Lucky for us, this isn’t our first rodeo! We know how to fold
paper in these parts. And sure, now there’s some cutting,
and probably a little gluing, in our future. But we live
fearless, because we’ve harnessed the power of the page to
fly nearly ten feet!
Seriously, though– look at it, think about it, cut it, fold it, glue
it. Make it into a little Iron-Man.

7. THEN
Write some directions so the next poor soul can make
one.

8. When you finish…
… let’s talk about it.

9. And your homework…
… is to print another one (if the color is too expensive, it’s cool to do black and
white. I don’t mind), and print your directions, then take them to some
innocent soul. Have that person make the Iron-man. Watch.
Do not speak. Just watch.
When they finish, write a summary of what they did right, what they did
wrong, and how you feel your directions fared. Once the person has finished,
you can also ask questions.
This summary should be posted to your blog by a week from today, and it will
replace BOTH your Tumblr posts for next week.

And remember your resume and cover letter are due to me,
saved as PDFs, along with your job ad and your rough draft
(with any comments people added to it), all via email. If
people made hand-written comments on your draft, you can
get those to me any way you’d like (hand them to me today,
bring them Tuesday, take a photo of them… whatever works
for you).
