A TVIAS, or totally implantable venous access system, is also known as a medical port. It is a small medical appliance that is surgically implanted and connected to veins like the jugular, subclavian, or superior vena cava veins. Medical ports are commonly made of plastic, stainless steel, or titanium and are used to administer drugs for chemotherapy, hemodialysis, or other treatments by connecting to the implanted port under the skin. They provide easier access to veins than routine searches and inflict less pain on patients.
