Team Project Paper
In the past experience Team projects are a way of demonstrating communication skills
to accomplish a common goal amongst active role players. In the past I had team projects that
went really good and others that were not as good. Even though the experiences were different
than others the approaches to accomplish the task were still the same.
An experience of a team project that went bad was a group project for an English
assignment when the team of 5 members had to create an organization/ fake company to
reach a certain audience group. In the group of 5 I was tasked to be the facilitator/observer
while, Amy was the team organizer or leader for the group. Steve was the one who set up
schedule for us to meet according to our availability. Bryan was the recorder for the group who
took down information that we need from the meeting. Larry was in the group but never had
any formal role. We did not a timekeeper for the group but at times we should have had a
timekeeper because most of the group meetings took 2 hours long which was unnecessary.
Larry who was very disrespectful the majority of the meetings played the role of the joker.
In deciding which target audience we wanted to reach for our project, it took us three
days to decide which organization/company we wanted to be and which audience group we
wanted to target. We did our project on steroids and decided to use college athletes as the
target audience for the idea. Even though I was the facilitator/ observer, I also played the role
of the helpful and bridge builder because most of the group did not know much about steroids
and I knew people at the time that were taking some steroids and what side effects that it
2. played on their body. Larry was not supportive with the steroid issue he was always criticizing
people who used steroid and said “they were still weaker than him even when they took or
shot up the drugs”. He would make some up some excuse at why he couldn’t meet at times we
all could meet and had a problem with Amy because she was the leader and he was not the
leader. When we finish the project we did not get a great score like I wanted. I really was
disappointing to get the score we had. I vowed not to work with him the rest of the year and
that exactly what happened.
The next team project that I had was a good experience it was during an event when I
was in the military and we had to setup a refugee camp for refugees in South America. The
leader/ organizer of the group were our commanding officer Captain Dillard. Captain Dillard
decided to join 80 marines from the 22 Marine Expeditionary Unit and collaborate each to a
support unit such as Supply, Maintenance, Engineer, Transportation, Military Police, and
Medical. He told each unit how they played a specific part towards helping the refugee camp.
He planned out the process with the headquarters detachment unit in the U.S. The S-1
detachment which was in charge of keeping record of what when on in the meetings kept a
flow chart of how the layout of the camp should be and how long the process of building the
camp should take before the unit was sent to South America. In the storming process the unit I
was attached to was the supply unit. We were tasked in building different G.P. tents for the
shelter of the refugee and provide food such as Meal ready to Eat. Staff Sergeant Goodwin was
the facilitator for the Supply unit. He told us where to set up each tent placement and how to
spread them out.
3. The other groups like the Military Police for example had the task to make sure any
refugee was not getting hostile towards any other marines in the camp. This was one of the
norms profiles that Captain Dillard had the units to do so we can work together to accomplish
our goals. While setting up the camp to perform our jobs to help the refugee we did have some
jokers in the marine group who tried to have fun, but they were still able to do their job in a
timely manner. The camp was built and held 4,000 refugees and we did not have any problem
with running out any supplies either. After, we helped the refugee for our extended period the
army took over and relieved us from our duty. This was the adjourning moment for our unit and
we received a Presidential Unit Citation for our service when we returned back to the U.S
