TEAM 8: Geospatial User Feedback
Joan Masó and Alaitz Zabala
CREAF and UAB
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
TEAM MEMBERS
• Joan Masó: Since 1995, he has been a
researcher at CREAF, Barcelona. Developer of
MiraMon. Active participant in the Open
Geospatial Consortium Coordinator and
participant in some EC GEO related projects
such as GeoViQua and ConnectinGEO
• Alaitz Zabala Since 2001, she is a researcher
at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Her research main interests are standardized
metadata, quality documentation, lossy
compressed imagery. She was the main
developer of the GeMM tool (a metadata
editor).
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
SUPPORTING PROJECTS
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
• NextGEOSS: The NextGEOSS project, a
European contribution to GEOSS, proposes to
develop the next generation centralised hub for
Earth Observation data, where the users can
connect to access data and deploy EO-based
applications. It will Implement community
feedback mechanisms on the data hub
• Ground Truth 2.0: Ground Truth 2.0 is setting up
and validating six citizen observatories in real
conditions, in four European and two African
demonstration cases. The ultimate objective is
the global market uptake of the concept and
the enabling technologies.
INPUT DATA
• N/A
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
USED SOFTWARE/TOOLS
• NiMMbus is solution for storing geospatial
resources on the MiraMon cloud. The system
implements the Geospatial User Feedback
(GUF) standard developed in the
OGC www.opengeospatial.org/standards/guf
(started in the FP7 GeoViQua project). It to
provide comments, ratings, questions, etc that
can be associated with geospatial datasets on
a catalogue using a data/metadata identifier.
The initial implementation of NiMMbus being
extended to the GUF in the H2020 NextGEOSS
project. The system allows to creating a
citation of an external resource (in an external
catalogue or repository) and associate
feedback items about it.
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
PROJECT IDEA AND RESULTS
• Integration of the Geospatial User Feedback system
in the INSPIRE portal.
• In a clone of the portal, once you search for a topic,
for each dataset, you are able to:
• See previous feedback
• Provide new feedback about it.
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
See previous feedback
• Looking for “corine” and “spain”, this is the first
record that shows previous feedback entries
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
Provide new feedback

NEW DATASETS

INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
NEW SOFTWARE/TOOL
• Access to the actual hack and provide feedback on
INSPIRE datasets:
• NiMMbus home page:
• GitHub code and documentation
• https://github.com/joanma747/nimmbus
• Integration of user feedback in the GEOSS DAB
demo API
• http://www.creaf.uab.cat/temp/dab/
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
INSPIRE/GEOSS/COPERNICUS/
RELEVANCE
• It is relevant as they can directly reuse the developed
component in their portals with a minimum effort as
demonstrated in the hack.
• Actually GEOSS has adopted the same approach in their
data portal during this hackathon
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIETAL AND
ECONOMICAL CHALLENGES
• The hack complements the official metadata with
user evaluations.
• This should improve the search results and the
information available by users to assess fitness for
purpose.
• Data will be more used and metadata will improve
its quality.
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
REUSE
• The results of this project will be reused in
NextGEOSS.
• See the demo video on how to reuse this technology
in other metadata catalogues:

BUSINESS
• Do you plan to commercialise your results? If yes,
please describe your idea for commercialisation.
• Are you looking for some potential commercial
partners? If yes, what type of commercial partners
and partnership?
• Are you looking for potential investors? If yes, what
would you offer them?
INSPIRE Conference, Kehl, 5th Sept 2017
FOLLOW-UP
• We are ready to continue the development in
NextGEOSS including other aspects of feedback
such as citations to publications and quality
reports.
• We would like to join effort with other teams
working with metadata catalogues from the
INSPIRE Hack 2017 or beyond to build more
advanced solutions.
