Teaching writing across disciplines can help students learn. While some think writing belongs only in English or that their subject does not allow for it, strategies from the National Writing Project can help teachers create relevant assignments and learn grading. There are two types of writing - writing to learn through taking notes or journals, and public writing to demonstrate knowledge. Blogs and wikis can engage students accustomed to social media and think outside traditional assignments.
