5 March 2010 (Friday) | 15:30 - 17:40 | http://citers2010.cite.hku.hk/abstract/76 | Prof. Ray HUANG, Distinguished Professor, Department of Engineering Science, National Cheng Kung University
Advancements in Internet based technologies, especially online conferencing tools, create a unique niche for teachers to receive ongoing, on-demand learning for their profession. This workshop will introduce you to several web-conferencing tools from the formal (Adobe Connect Pro, Elluminate) to the free (Skype, WizIQ). Review several resources where professional organizations (OTAN, CALPRO, CASAS), district educational offices, community colleges and publishers offer teachers professional development opportunities from the comfort of your home. In addition, learn what kind of equipment you need to successfully participate in these online webinars.
In this session, participants will see examples of custom features that can meet business requirements. You will learn what basic functions are needed in a learning management system, what the most-sought custom features are, and why there is dissatisfaction with LMS systems. Those who are in need of specific LMS features will get an idea of how they can be achieved.
The Digital Researcher: Collaborative delivery and learning in practice [160]Lee Fallin
Here are the slides from Lee Fallin and Mike Ewen's presentation from the Association of Learning Technology Winter Conference 2018.
This session will introduce the University of Hull’s Digital Researcher online course. The Digital Researcher was created to support postgraduate students and research-active staff navigating the territory of online publishing, social media, collection of research data, data storage, copyright and licensing - all within the context of academic study and research. While essential components of research, students and staff often find some of these to be ‘dull’ or ‘unengaging’, and so the course provided a novel way of addressing these issues through contextual learning with a focus on discussion. The first implementation of The Digital Student had an uptake of over 150 sign-ups with 51 completions, with another session due in November this year.
Delivered online over the course of a calendar week (7 days), the Digital Student represented the first significant collaboration between three areas of professional services within the university. This has led to important reflections on the nature of collaboration work within professional services, and the advantages of such approaches. The instructional design approach that was taken to developing the course applied the concepts of MOOCs. As this was delivered within the institutional VLE Canvas and was opened to all students and staff at the University of Hull, it may, however, be better described as a Small Online Closed Course (SOOC).
A range of technologies and tools both within and external to Canvas were used to deliver this course. This included:
1) the delivery of a digital badge through Credly to reward participation,
2) online discussions,
3) Tweet chats,
4) Collaborative Google Doc,
5) Video delivery via Panopto,
6) Content delivery via LibApps.
Participants will gain an overview of:
1) Using an institutional VLE (Canvas) to deliver a SOOC,
2) Building learning communities across staff and student audiences,
3) Collaboration in delivery between three professional services areas,
4) Learning points and changes for the next run.
Meet the pioneers in the field of e-learning for a structural content development. Make your thesis imperative that involves services provided by the experts who ensure to cover almost every subject with informative writing and team of editors who control the standards towards final shaping of content. They are useful in getting good results.

This is the presentation I gave to Haltech on WordPress 102. I gave a previous talk in January on 101. This builds on that knowledge, and gets you making decisions, like hosting, themes, plugins and who to hire!
This talk that I delivered at WordCamp Chicago introduces WordPress to people that have never touched the platform. People want to know what their getting into! What kind of commitment does this mean? What things can it do for me on social media? A quick look at the dashboard and take questions that people have. Why would people use WordPress?
This is a step by step method that takes users through importing data into WordPress and then turning it into facets. This helps visitors to your website find the information that they need without actually knowing much about the topic, rather than being knowledgeable about the content of your website.
Posts vs. Pages & Categories vs. TagsThere is so much confusion about what types of things should be put on a page and what should be in a post. Static vs. Dynamic content is the best way to tackle this. An "About Us" page would be just that... A PAGE. If you are talking about something that is more time sensitive, then you want to do a post. Connected to this would be Categories and Tags. What are they? When creating a website, you can edit a menu to include not only pages, but also category archives that can create a more complete experience for small businesses. This talk can also include (depending on time) how to incorporate this into your navigation.
This presentation was prepared for the inaugural WPCampus in Sarasota Florida on July 16, 2016. It was designed to show not only out of the box solutions, such as WordPress and BuddyPress/bbPress, but also what we have designed ourselves

WordCamp Hamilton - CPT's vs Gutenberg TemplatesShanta Nathwani
In our last episode, dear campers, we learned about Custom Post Types (CPT’s) and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF’s) and why we need them. We had everything clear, right? Enter Gutenberg…
Until Gutenberg, we had to copy over content from one old post to the new. The other option is to use CPT’s and ACF’s. What’s the difference? When should you use one or the other… or BOTH?
In this session, we’ll take a quick review of CPT’s and ACF’s, then compare them to Gutenberg Blocks and Templates, and discuss when you should use each and why.
This presentation is meant to give the very basics of building a website on WordPress with Gutenberg and JetPack. We are going to build these pages: About, Contact, Blog. Then showing you how to set a static page as the home page, as well as organizing your menu.
An Affordable REST - Coder Camp Hamilton 2019Shanta Nathwani
This presentation talks about the need for municipalities to take more of an interest in presenting their constituents with information, especially around affordable housing. How much work and money can be saved if they invest a little time in disseminating information on a website, rather than hoarding it? I was able to produce this project in 5 days as a student. What's their excuse?
This presentation was given to the WordPress Hamilton Community in the hopes of diversifying the speaker submissions for WordCamp Hamilton and beyond. We had a small but mighty group and with the help of the Diversity Training at WordPress, we were able to encourage a few more speakers.
This case study was presented at Full Stack Toronto Conference 2017 showing the case for my project, An Affordable REST, which helps people find subsidized housing in Toronto. This was a full stack project, using React and Node.js

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Apologies for all the text. I’m used to putting all the details in the slides.
I’m going to layout what our students are being trained for, which takes up the majority of this presentation. Then, I want to hear from you as to what exactly we should be teaching them.
I would also like to give a shout out to one of my fellow faculty members at Sheridan College, Anna Bonar. Thank you for coming.
These are two of ICCIT’s grads just over a month ago, one of whom is now my co-instructor. Happy belated birthday to him for Friday.
These students finish with a bachelor of arts, unlike the Ryerson BTM program who finish with a B.Comm. Remember, these students aren’t being trained to be the programmers, but they have enough business acumen to figure out the needs of a client, come up with use cases and translate it to key players, especially programmers and developers such as yourselves. I believe we are teaching them the right things, but I want to know from you.
In most cases, there are 3 courses for each of these areas
Three courses: Intro, Intermediate and Advanced
Taking what they’ve learned in the other areas, such as design, and implement it on the web
The last assignment is meant to pull the design and information architecture pieces together.
Networking: How many of you in the room are my students? How many of you are exchange?
This was to address a concern that I’d heard that new grads don’t know how to network. Make them ready for the world, no matter what they choose to do. But not everyone thinks this is a good idea. I had one student who said this was completely useless to them.
Capstone will pair them with real clients.
What we realized is we weren’t teaching them enough code. But this type of teaching is still valuable.
The reason we went with more WordPress is that students would then have something they could leave the college with and start earning right away.
with Traditional Brick And Mortar Institutions
We use many real world resources and pool together the resources that the students will hopefully use in the future.
