This is a presentation that I gave at WordCamp TOronto in September, 2017 about my experience at Code School. I went to BrainStation in Toronto and graduated in June 2017. These are things that you need to know before you enroll in a code school, regardless of which school you attend.
Product Management in Startups vs Big Org by Amazon Product LeaderProduct School
Main Takeaways:
-Prioritization in big companies is more complex (and across engineering orgs in different geographies)
-Stakeholder management is more than 50% of the PM role in bigger companies compared to startups
-Speed of execution and levels of ownership in startups are higher
If you are having some difficulties with your programming assignments check this presentation and find out how to solve this problems quickly and easy. http://www.programmingassignment.net/
As we fight over a handful of senior developers, juniors are often overlooked. Everyone can learn and it’s time to enable talent to rise from across our communities. Raf and Lance will teach you how to teach. This will benefit you, your organisation, our industry and the people around you.

Google Developer Student Clubs are vibrant community groups designed specifically for college and university students who share a common interest in Google developer technologies. These clubs provide a platform for students from various undergraduate and graduate programs to come together and delve into the world of development.
What's truly remarkable about GDSC is that it welcomes students from all backgrounds and disciplines. So, whether you're majoring in computer science, engineering, design, or any other field, if you're passionate about growing as a developer, GDSC is the place for you.
By becoming a part of a GDSC, you gain access to a unique learning environment that centers around peer-to-peer collaboration. This means that you'll have the chance to learn not only from experts but also from your fellow students who are just as eager to explore and innovate. This sense of community-driven learning can significantly accelerate your understanding of developer technologies.
But GDSC is more than just a learning platform. It's also a platform for action and impact. As a member of a GDSC, you'll have the opportunity to put your newfound knowledge into practice. You'll work on real-world projects and solutions that have a direct impact on local businesses and the broader community. This hands-on experience is invaluable as it allows you to apply theoretical concepts to tangible, real-life scenarios.
To sum it up, Google Developer Student Clubs are not just clubs; they're gateways to a world of learning, collaboration, and meaningful contribution. So, if you're excited about technology, curious about development, and eager to make a difference, I encourage you to consider joining a GDSC. It's a journey that promises growth, camaraderie, and a chance to shape the future through code.

How to Organize Your Content Through Navigation and WayfindingShanta Nathwani
Posts vs. Pages & Categories vs. Tags. There is so much confusion about what types of things should be put on a page and what should be in a post. Static vs. Dynamic content is the best way to tackle this. When creating a website, you can edit a menu to include not only pages, but also categories that can create a more complete experience.

WordCamp Hamilton - CPT's vs Gutenberg TemplatesShanta Nathwani
In our last episode, dear campers, we learned about Custom Post Types (CPT’s) and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF’s) and why we need them. We had everything clear, right? Enter Gutenberg…
Until Gutenberg, we had to copy over content from one old post to the new. The other option is to use CPT’s and ACF’s. What’s the difference? When should you use one or the other… or BOTH?
In this session, we’ll take a quick review of CPT’s and ACF’s, then compare them to Gutenberg Blocks and Templates, and discuss when you should use each and why.
This presentation is meant to give the very basics of building a website on WordPress with Gutenberg and JetPack. We are going to build these pages: About, Contact, Blog. Then showing you how to set a static page as the home page, as well as organizing your menu.
An Affordable REST - Coder Camp Hamilton 2019Shanta Nathwani
This presentation talks about the need for municipalities to take more of an interest in presenting their constituents with information, especially around affordable housing. How much work and money can be saved if they invest a little time in disseminating information on a website, rather than hoarding it? I was able to produce this project in 5 days as a student. What's their excuse?
This presentation was given to the WordPress Hamilton Community in the hopes of diversifying the speaker submissions for WordCamp Hamilton and beyond. We had a small but mighty group and with the help of the Diversity Training at WordPress, we were able to encourage a few more speakers.
This case study was presented at Full Stack Toronto Conference 2017 showing the case for my project, An Affordable REST, which helps people find subsidized housing in Toronto. This was a full stack project, using React and Node.js

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
