This document summarizes the challenges of teaching HCI at the University of Maribor during its designation as the European Capital of Culture in 2012. Students in the Ubiquitous Computing for Media master's program were tasked with addressing two challenges: increasing engagement for the Capital of Culture events and connecting tourists, locals, and youth. The framework used was an experiential "Double Diamond" process involving user research, prototyping, and pitching solutions to stakeholders. This provided real-world experience for students while also advocating for HCI and user-centered design practices.
