Tchibo was founded in 1949 in Hamburg, Germany by Max Herz and Carl Tchiling Hiryan. They revolutionized the coffee market by sending roasted coffee directly to customers by mail. In 1952, Tchibo began publishing a monthly magazine and opened its first retail shop in Hamburg. By 1965, Tchibo had over 400 shops across Germany and began expanding into non-food products and financial services. In 2006, Tchibo opened its first shop in Istanbul, Turkey at the Cevahir Shopping Mall.
