MollyVR Waterhouse Task 9 – Formal Proposal Magazine Genre : I have decided to opt for Alternative Rock as my genre for my magazine as there aren’t many magazines around like this and they are very simple to make colour and artist wise. Magazine Title: After having a discussion with my focus group and collecting the results from a questionnaire, I have decided that Revival is the better name for my Alternative Rock music magazine over names like Alt-Rock. The word Revival also refers to Alternative Rock coming back onto the music scene and gaining popularity again. Target Audience: My target audience is mainly white middle aged men who are working/middle class who live a lifestyle that is quite normal and relaxed as they are the main category of people who I would expect tolisten to Alternative Rock from my perspective. If I create a magazine that is directly made for their viewing purpose, they will be more likely to buy it. Front Page: On the front page I am going to have my masthead “REVIVAL” along the top in large writing to catch the attention of my target audience. I would like to have either a band or a solo artist with my masthead in capital letters. The model(s) should wear dark clothing. I will fill the blank spaces around the artist/band with coverlines to reduce the risk of the target audience losing interest in the magazine. I will also have a colour scheme. Contents Page: On the contents page, I will have pictures with the page numbers they refer to next to them and descriptions next to them. I will follow the same colour scheme I used on the front page. In the top left corner I will have the magazines masthead in a smaller size to create a link through the magazine. Double Page Spread: For the double page spread, I want one good quality picture on the right hand side, and an article on the left. I prefer to use an article as this is what my focus group and I decided was best and also it gives more detail about the artist rather than the reader having to see what the interviewer asked first. I plan to follow the colour scheme already used across the front cover and contents page. In the top left corner I will have the magazines masthead in a smaller size to create a link through the magazine. Photographs: I will gather some location recce’s of places where I wish to take the images for my magazine. I want to use plain backgrounds to make the model stand out. I am thinking about using a brick wall as one of my background as they are often symbolised with rebellion due to graffiti, vandalism etc.
