180 degree rule
 The 180 rule is the first evident piece of editing in our
film. It is used very effectively within the opening
interrogation scene.
 We were able to keep one character on one side of the
frame at all times and this allowed us to maintain a
sense of continuity and distance between the two
characters.
 This in turn allows the film to flow and the story is
then easily told.
Shot reverse shot
 The shot reverse shot is also used in the interrogation
scene. By continuously looking from one character to
another it conveys the tense atmosphere that we set
out to create. Each character wants to get in the last
word.
 The back and forth action also displays confusion as if
the suspect is finding difficulty comprehending the
situation. This adds an element of mystery typical to
the thriller genre. I personally believe this was used
well to implement key ideas
Match on action
 Two match on actions were used in our film with the
‘bin shot’ being the more effective.
 In general, it didn’t particularly add to the story line
but it did look good and flowed incredibly well. It did
convey a sense of anger however, from the detective.
 Our second match on action did add to the story and
immersed the viewer well as we see the ‘unknown
caller’ appear on the phone. This again added the
sense of mystery that a crime thriller needs.
Mise-en-scene
 I personally feel as if the mise-en-scene was very
inconsistent. At times it was painfully obvious that
both school setting and uniform were being used.
Even if this was the case, the settings were still
effective.
 Items such as the police badge weren’t particularly
prominent and therefore have little effect. Yet, the
knife was used incredibly well. It always hinted at
danger due to t placing and such
Audience feedback
 Audience feedback was very solid and said that typical
thriller conventions were implemented through
editing and camerawork. I didn’t expect such good
feedback for my preliminary film, which also said that
mise-en-scene was cleverly used. I was very pleased
with this response and agree that editing was used
well. However for my next project other aspects such
as sound must be considered more carefully to fit
thriller conventions and make the film look more
professional.
