Evaluation
The quality of this method is dependant on how good the image you have taken
turns out. If the image is high quality then it can be very effective, however if the
image is of poor quality then it definitely wont have a positive effect and wont look
professional if used in any print product. This method is fairly quick if everyone
knows exactly what they are doing in the image and there is a skilled photographer
being used. On the other hand this method can take a long time if no one is
prepared, this is all dependant on if it has been organised correctly. I believe that
this method is fairly limited on what it can be used in. I don’t personally feel that it
would be very effective if used in a graphic novel as it doesn’t have a ‘comic’ style
as usually comic books use images that are very animated and cartoon like.
However I do think that this could possibly be used in a children’s book as it can be
done in a very simple way that makes it less detailed and complicated especially
for young children. I think that this method would be suitable for children aged 4+
as I feel at this age they would appreciate it more, I think that children of a
younger age would prefer more animated images of characters that they can
recognise and also more colours which can be made brighter when using another
method. The resources needed for this method would be; camera, computer, props,
models, costumes.

Evaluation
The quality of this method was very effective especially if it was being used in a
children's book as this style is used many times in books due to the simplicity that you
can create in drawings, you can also make these drawings very detailed so it can be
used in a graphic novel also. The quality of this method can show the character very
well as you can decide exactly how they look as you are creating it yourself instead of
using models which may result in you not getting the right image that you want. This
style of method can also be coloured in which gives it more of a detailed look and you
could also use paints and water colours depending on which you most prefer. This
method is quite time consuming but this does depend on how much detail you want to
include, for example; in children's books maybe more of a simple drawing would be
most appropriate and for a graphic novel a lot of detail should be used and more strong
and bold lines. The time of this method can also depend on how you want to colour the
illustration as paints would take longer than if you wanted the image to stay plain and
in black and white. I personally feel that this method is most suited to children's books
as you can make it really simple and it would be a lot harder to add lots of detail and
make it look more animated if done as an illustration. However this could be used in a
graphic novel if you chose to use more simplistic imagery, but it definitely wouldn't be
animated looking like the usual graphic novel is. The audience for this method would be
better suited for younger children as it can be done really simply yet still be effective,
younger children would definitely appreciate this more as they would understand it a
lot better. The resources for this method are simply all the equipment for drawing and a
camera if you wanted to photograph them and maybe edit them slightly on photoshop.

Evaluation
The quality in this method is very good as no matter what image you choose you
can get the effect that you want. There are many effects available meaning that
there is more of a chance to get different and unique styles and effects. Some of the
effects on this method can give you a more ‘comic’ look which is very good for this
task, and could be useful for a lot of other things. This method was very quick and
easy as once you know where all the tools are and what they do you can get several
images completed in a very short time. It is a very fast way of producing a high
quality image which is very effective for its purpose. This method would be very
effective for a graphic novel as it has a lot of effects that would be appropriate for a
comic and that give the look that someone has drawn or painted it which is the
style that is commonly used in graphic novels. The audience would be aimed at
teenagers and young adults as I believe this is the age range in which comics and
graphic novels are bought. Anyone of a younger age wouldn’t appreciate this style
as they are very unlikely to buy a graphic novel as they would be too advanced.
The resources that would be needed for this ‘comic book effect’ are; A computer,
Photoshop, and depending on if you want to use your own image you would then
need ; models, camera, props, costumes.

Evaluation
The quality of this method can be very good if it has been done properly and a lot
of time and care has been given to produce it. However it can sometimes go wrong
and have quite a bad result in the end if it has been done quickly or each piece of
the image hasn’t been done with enough detail. This method takes up a lot if time
especially if you are new to it, you have to go round every piece of the image to get
a professional and high quality finish otherwise there will most likely be pieces
missing and some of the shapes wont look as they had done before. This method
can especially take a long time if you have chosen a very detailed image with lots
of different shadings and things going on in the background. I think that this
method could be used for both graphic novels and children’s books as it can be done
in a very simplistic way suitable for a children’s book or be done in a detailed and
interesting way that would be better suited for a graphic novel. The audience for
this method would range from baby to young adult as I feel that it fits in with both
graphic novel and children’s book style. Rotoscoping can be done in several ways
which you can choose depending on which book you are going for as you can go
for a detailed or a simple effect with this method. The resources needed for this
method include; computer and camera, models, props, costumes (if using your
own image).

Overall Evaluation
All these experiments have shown which methods could be used on each print product,
e.g. children’s book/ graphic novel. All of the methods I have tried out have really
helped me develop idea on what my final product is going to look like and what method
I would most like to use and what I feel would suit my target audience more. Some of
the experiments such as the illustration method wouldn't be my preferred choice for my
product as I feel that I wouldn't be skilled enough in my drawing skills to develop a
really detailed and interesting piece of work that represents a graphic novel and
animated look. I really liked the 'comic book effect' method as I feel that this gave the
best comic look and achieved what I was looking for, for my product. I am hoping to
achieve a real comic effect for my product as I wanted to make mine very unique and
different using a fairy tale story but with a comic book layout. I definitely wouldn't use
the digital photography method as I felt that there would be no editing involved. Which
could ruin the effect of my product as I wanted to have my characters looking fairly
animated much like my example from the 'comic effect' method. I felt that the method of
digital photography would be better suited to a children's book style, especially for
younger children, for example; in baby's books they use digital photography along with
the word of what this product is so that young children can link the two things. I feel
that I most like the 'comic effects' method but that I can definitely improve on my skills
of this method as I get to understand it more and see the different filters and effects that
you can use. I will gain understanding of this method by continuing to practice on
different images to test out different styles and see which would be best for a graphic
novel.
