3. Theme or focus of images
All the photos are portraits taken in a studio and all the photos focal point is the
person’s emotion. It’s hard to tell if these people paid to have their photo taken or if
the photographer asked them. All of the photos were taken around 2012 as stated on
the photographer’s website. It looks as though the photographer enjoys getting shots
of people being happy and with their family because of his photos and he
concentrates on the emotion, such as photo 3 where the photo concentrates on the
little girls smile.
4. Composition
The photographer has more freedom because he is in a studio so he can decide to
include or exclude whatever he wants. But apart from the actual person all he can
include that’s extra is more white background. So I think that’s why he decides to
concentrate on the models faces and emotion. He does sometimes do wider shots in
the case of the last two photos to get more in such as the guitar or the models body
as well but apart from there’s no need to do wider shots because all you’d get is
more white background.
Techniques used
There is obviously special lighting used on a few of the photos to make it look brighter
and there is also filters used on photos 1 and 5 to make the photos a bit darker and
look a bit different to the rest of them. There’s not any depth of field used because
there’s not background cos there in a studio.
Strengths & Weaknesses
I like the concentration on the emotion of the subjects faces so I may use that in my
work.
I don’t like that they’re all very similar so it gets quite boring so I may try and make
mine more diverse.
