Health Psychology Psychological Adjustment to the Disease, Disability and Lossijtsrd
This article discusses the psychological adjustment of adults to severe or incurable diseases or other loss. The stress that results from a diagnosis of illness or loss depends on many factors, such as the beliefs of each individual and the social context. Considering the diversity of human perceptions, feelings and behaviors, it was considered important for the present study to include a theory of stress and treatment related to physical illness. At the center of attention are end stage individuals, not their organic problems but mainly their psychological state and that of their families. Reference is then made to the loss of loved one and the period of mourning. As regards the disease response, there is a difference between the immediate reaction to loss, what we call mourning, and the adaptation to a new way of life without the loved one. Finally, the role of therapeutic communication between patients and their families and mental health professionals, as well as the need to maintain psychological balance, is also described. This presentation explores an integrated approach to medication management in bipolar disorder. Individuals with bipolar spectrum conditions are a grater risk of illness, disease and early death. Understanding common health comorbidities in bipolar spectrum conditions and developing a working model to treat both health and mental health comorbidities with least possible medical interventions could improve longevity and health span for those with mood disorders.
Depression is a state of feeling sad, miserable and down in the dumps with loss of self-confidence. Depression despite being a serious condition in all age groups is more common and significant in the
geriatric population as it is associated with morbidity and mortality. The cause of depression is multifactorial. Various scales have been developed to assess depression of which the Geriatric Depression
Scale is most suited for elderly population and those with dementia. In our study, we aim to analyse the prevalence of depression among elderly patients visiting the outpatient departments of a tertiary care hospital and determine the factors influencing depression in them. The study was an Observational study carried out on 51 elderly patients over the age of 60 years attending the outpatient departments of PSG Hospital. The Geriatric Depression Scale Short form was used to determine the prevalence of depression. A
self-designed questionnaire considering various factors causing depression was administered to determine
the factors influencing depression. It was found that among 51 elders in the age group of 60 to 80 years,
58.8% were depressed of which 54% were males and 68% were females. Financial fears regarding future
and income insufficiency were the most important factors contributing to depression. This shows that
monetary fear is a major factor resulting in depression. The government and other organizations must
ensure that better support both financial and other services like healthcare are provided to the elderly in
order to prevent depressive illnesses.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Anderson, Cesur, & Tekin (2015)open up the discussion with focusing on the onset of PTSD among individuals. They present PTSD as a severe disorder with a focus on the destruction of thinking, emotions, and actions. Adamsons & Johnson (2013) argue that PTSD influences an individual to become unstable in terms of thinking and acting. Most schizophrenic patients end up either being responsive or withdrawn (Bargai, Ben-Shakhar, & Shalev, 2007). PTSD is different from multiple personalities due to the symptoms differences between the two disorders (Herring et al., 2008). Patients who suffer from the disease either hear things or see them. They have an altered personality and always feel angry and irrational (O'Mahen & Flynn, 2008). Patients show bizarre behavior. They have preoccupation when it comes to issues focusing on religion (Söderquist, Wijma, Thorbert, & Wijma, 2009). PTSD patients feel indifferent to essential situations.
Individuals who possess the disorders lack a strong personality and may not pose a danger to those around them (Baumeister, Vohs, Aaker, & Garbinsky, 2013). Chassin (2010) states that there are several causes of PTSD. Brummelte & Galea (2016) confirm that factors such as poor parenting, childhood experiences, and low motivation in life are not the causes of PTSD. (Fusar-Poli, et al., 2014) Presents an argument that the roots of PTSD are caused by various issues in the human environment that influence the minds to become unstable. Individuals may have infections in their brains, a significant factor that may lead to them having the disorder (Dein, 2017).
PTSD exists in the genetic coding of individuals which influences individuals to pass it from one generation to another with much ease (Dziwota, Stepulak, Włoszczak-Szubzda, & Olajossy, 2018). Despite the disorder lacking a cure, it does not mean that it is not manageable (Dziwota, Stepulak, Włoszczak-Szubzda, & Olajossy, 2018). Some combination of prescriptions and therapeutic techniques are vital in dealing with the disorder.

Does psychotherapy have a biological basis?
In a word, yes. Psychotherapy has a solid basis in biological processes. Changes in thought processes can be linked to changes in the structure or function of neural activity (Stahl, 2013). Numerous imaging and functional scanning studies demonstrate that psychotherapy changes how the brain functions, and these changes can be demonstrated on a biological level. A few of these studies are highlighted here to illustrate the point.
A systematic review by Zantvoord, Diehle, & Lindauer (2013) identified 16 studies that examined brain imaging with PTSD patients receiving trauma-processing therapies including TF-CBT and EMDR. The studies reviewed showed various biological factors at play including increased activity in the mid-prefrontal cortex and decreased activity in the amygdala following TF-CBT (Zantvoord, Diehle, & Lindauer, 2013). Furthermore, Lindauer et al. (2008) showed that following TF-CBT, the neural circuitry of working memory in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex showed decreased activity. Disturbances in this brain region appears to play a part in the development and maintenance of PTSD (Lindauer et al, 2008).
Too many studies demonstrate the biological basis of therapy to give a solid accounting of this evidence. Thome et al (2016) compared the use of psychotherapy versus pharmacology to help reduce anxiety in reconsolidation phases of traumatic memories. The reality that both therapy and pharmacologic agents can produce similar results demonstrates that therapy has a biological component. Even (traditionally) less structured forms of therapy such as psychodynamic therapy has been shown through brain imaging to change the structure and function of neural pathways (Abbass, Nowoweiski, Bernier, Tarzwell, & Beutel, 2014).
The summation of evidence that psychotherapy can alter the chemistry, structure, and function of the brain makes it clear that psychotherapeutic interventions are an important aspect of effective treatment for mental disorders.
Explain how culture, religion, and socioeconomics might influence one’s perspective of the value of psychotherapy treatments.
Culture, religion, and socioeconomic status are active influences in people’s lives, so these factors will inherently have influence on the choices people are willing to consider. Some cultures may believe more in therapy than in pharmacology, as may certain religious groups. Some religious groups may shun all forms of mental health intervention believing that these illnesses reflect a lack of faith or misunderstanding of how to bring life into balance.
All three of these specific factors have systemic impacts that can influence a patient’s willingness to engage in psychotherapy, and this can limit the potential gains from therapy if the patient is hesitant to participate (.

Rationale
Biopsychology is the process of using biology and its principles in the study of the behavior of people that the mental processes that they have. I have chosen six articles that were published in several journals. It means that the information in them is very valid and is reliable. The text is also readable as the content is written and the English used is relatively simple. The information in the research papers can also be generalized as all human are the same and most biological systems that lead to some behavior are also the same. The primary rationale for the inclusion is that the natural systems have a significant influence on the psychology of a person and the response that they put in place.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
This slide is special for master students (MIBS & MIFB) in UUM. Also useful for readers who are interested in the topic of contemporary Islamic banking.
