The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, India and was built between 1631 and 1648 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favorite wife. It took over 20 years to construct using 1,000 elephants and 22,000 workers and was designed to be a symbol of Shah Jahan's love for his wife. The emperor was deeply grieved by his wife's death and ordered his court to mourn for two years.
