5. Car Mechanic
Car mechanics main role is
repairing vehicles. They quote
customers before starting the work
which may involve repairing or
replacing parts. They also perform
annual ‘health checks’ on vehicles
called MOTs.
6. Shop Assistant
Shop assistants can be found in lots of
different types of shops. Their main role is
looking after the customers and helping
them in anyway they can. They usually
need to sort and display all the items
around the shop, work on the checkout or
customer service areas, and keep everything
looking clean and tidy.
7. Hairdresser
Hairdressers cut, colour and style
customer’s hair. The job also
involves washing hair, cleaning the
salon and talking to customers to
keep them occupied and happy
while having their treatment.
8. Barber
Barbers mainly cut men's hair using
scissors, clippers and razors. They also
shave and trim beards.
9. Office Worker
Someone who works in an office will
usually work on a computer
performing administrative jobs.
Office roles can be for many different
jobs, such as customer support,
marketing, HR (Human Resources) or
finance.
10. Teacher
Teachers educate children and adults.
In most countries, this happens in
schools by paid professionals although
they may also teach in online settings
or as a tutor.
11. Doctor
Doctors diagnose and treat
conditions, disorders, and diseases.
Depending on where the doctor
works, they will treat different
things. A GP (General Practitioner)
sees lots of different patients,
prescribes medication or
recommend other forms of
treatment, and can refer patients
to specialist clinics when needed.
12. Dentist
Dentists specialise in the prevention
and treatment of conditions in our
mouths. They take x-rays, examine
your teeth, gums and mouth to make
sure they are healthy and may give
them a thorough cleaning. They have
a team to support them, including
dental nurses.
13. Waste Collector
Waste Collectors collect and dispose
of rubbish, including items that can
be recycled. Specialised vehicles are
used to help them collect and
dispose of the waste in a safe way.
16. Bus Driver
Bus drivers transport passengers to
different places in buses – some locally and
some across long distances (sometimes
even internationally).
17. Pilot
Pilots fly different types of aircraft
carrying passengers or cargo across
a country or internationally.
18. Nurse
Nurses provide care to patients in
hospital, at home or elsewhere who
are suffering physically or mentally.
Many nurses specialise in certain
areas, such as an ER (Emergency
Room) nurse or midwife.
19. Builder
Builders construct homes, industrial
and commercial buildings. They also
extend and demolish buildings using
manual labour and machinery.
23. Firefighter
Firefighters have a dangerous job -
controlling, putting out fires and
keeping people safe. They also
rescue people from dangerous
situations, such as floods and
accidents.
