I am a sixty year old male. Having left secondary modern school with no
qualifications I worked for three years in various areas from production lines in
factories to construction. At the age of eighteen I then commenced nurse training,
after qualifying as a registered nurse at the age of twenty one, I remained in nursing
for three years. I then decided to travel, working around Europe mainly in Germany
and Italy picking up a little of both languages, all the while I was working mainly in
construction picking up various skills along the way after spending some time in the
U.S.A, mostly in the southern states I decided to resume nursing in England. I
worked in many areas, being responsible for physical and mental health wellbeing
patients. I had responsibilities in regards to cash, medication, also in the training and
support of staff, including formulating rotas, arranging annual leave, as a manager I
was responsible for the staffs supervisions and appraisals, I was often called upon to
give lectures to people involved in patient care. Liaising with various professionals
and relatives was routine, as often was liaising with police and probation/court and
legal services, I was also often called upon to ‘act up’ for my managers and often on
24 hour call, in case of the need for prompt staff/patient support.
In August 2008 I was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, which required the total
removal of the larynx, for 12 months I was unable to speak a word. I have since had
a prosthesis added which gives me good voice, I am able to change this
independently, monthly which takes about 10 minutes. The prognosis for this cancer
is very good, although it ended my nursing career.
I have a full clean UK driving licence allowing me to drive up to 7.5 tons which I have
held from the age of 21. I often drive to Rome, driving is obviously not a problem. I
have 3 children aged 15, 19 and 21, who live with their mother locally, I have daily
contact with them all. I am totally flexible as to working hours, days, nights or both,
away from the local areas would also pose no problem at all.
If/when required I can furnish excellent references.
