The WFP in Egypt supported a program to improve natural resource management and alleviate poverty through land holding consolidation. This involved marking plot borders, soil analysis, signing contracts, and technical assistance to encourage farmers with small plots to consolidate their land. It resulted in 20-25% more cultivated land, 10-15% lower water usage, and 15-20% increases in income and reductions in costs. The pilot program was expanded throughout the village as more farmers adopted the successful model.
