The fibre is produced through a process involving milling corn starch, fermenting it to lactic acid, producing an intermediate called lactide, and polymerizing lactide into polylactic acid fibres through ring opening polymerization. The resulting fibre has properties including rapid wicking, excellent hand feel and resilience, wrinkle resistance, and UV and stain resistance while being biodegradable.
