Bob, a public relations agent, is dispatched to Beijing to support the HYPERTUBE China project. He meets Li Zhang, a top HYPERTUBE executive, and they travel together promoting HYPERTUBE construction. Though initially prejudiced against executives, Bob grows close to Li. Their relationship becomes intimate but political pressures keep them apart. Two years later, while surfing in France, Bob sees Li running toward him and their love is reunited.

1. SYNOPSIS
As he returns to the US from London, by air, grief-stricken Bob Harmon recalls the events of the past
five weeks. Bob, a public relations agent, had been dispatch to Beijing in support of HYPERTUBE
China. Bob was an independent contractor, with his own moderately successful business. Bob had
little use for corporations in general and even less for executives; and Bob was not afraid to say so.
Bob traveled to China from Seattle, which had the only HYPERTUBE connection in the continental US.
While the BRICS nations, especially China and Russia, were well advanced in their construction of
HYPERTUBE, countries outside of BRICS had so far resisted, under pressure from the IMF nations.
Once Bob arrived at HYPERTUBE Beijing, he reported to Li Zhang, a top executive with HYPERTUBE
China. Li was a language expert, conversant in 12 languages. Li was also stunningly beautiful and Bob
is immediately attracted to her. However, Bob cannot get by his prejudice against executives; and his
and Li’s relationship got off to a rocky start.
As Li revealed details of Bob’s assignment, Bob discovered he would be traveling with Li to countries
interested in constructing HYPERTUBE. But first, Bob must write a presentation so convincing the IMF
leaders in London would not refuse. Bob completed the bulk of Li’s presentation before he and Li left
Beijing. However, Bob continued to refine the presentation as he and Li traveled across Europe. As
Bob and Li travel together, their friendship gradually strengthened. Nonetheless Bob abandoned all
hope of intimacy with Li. On the contrary, Li, who has sacrificed personal relationships for her career,
now had designs on Bob. She took Bob to the French Riviera and tried to make Bob jealous. Li threw
herself at Jacques, an expert surfer. Since Li was also a very good surfer, she and Jacques surfed,
while Bob watched from the beach. When Jacques invited Li to a surfer party, she insisted Bob came
along, as well. While Bob was not a surfer, nor an expert hip hop/Salsa dancer, Bob was an expert at
ballroom dancing. Unfortunately, the DJ at the surfer party played no ballroom music for over an
hour. Bob became jealous; and bribed the DJ into separating Li from Jacques and his friends by first
inviting her to sing, before playing a ballroom dance song. When Li realized what Bob had done, she
sang two songs; an anthem of her independence and a highly suggestive sex song. Bob quickly
realized he must act decisively if he was to have Li for himself; and Bob went to Li before Jacques
could react.
As Bob and Li ballroom danced, the music and closeness broke down their personal barriers. They
quickly left the party and become passionate. However, almost immediately, their fears and sense of
personal responsibility kept them from losing control. Nonetheless, once each realized what the
other was doing, they replaced their passion with a spiritual bond. Unfortunately, their perceived
misconduct is discovered.
Li is taken into custody by Chinese agents on the way to London; but not before Li revealed to Bob
she, too, is a high-level intelligence agent. The Chinese ambassador warned Li, if she failed her
mission, she could be disgraced or imprisoned. Nevertheless, the Ambassador had decided to
scapegoat Bob and permanently ban him from China or any future contact with Li.

2. Under orders from the Ambassador, Li ignored Bob at the Embassy. Meanwhile, Bob struggled to
create a rousing conclusion to Li’s presentation. Nonetheless, once Bob realized Li eyes were wet with
tears the only instant she dared glance at him, Bob completed the presentation and sets out to send a
message of his love for her. Bob recalled he told Li, he bought a blue tie, because, ‘it is exactly the
same shade of blue as the Chinese dress you wore to dinner the first day we met.’ Bob wore the blue
tie as he waited for Li to depart the Embassy upon completion of her presentation.
Despite Bob’s and Li’s best efforts, Western investors rejected China’s offer. As Li walked from the
Embassy, heartbroken, she saw Bob wearing the blue tie. Having previously received permission from
the Ambassador to say goodbye to Bob, Li thanked Bob for his efforts and Bob humbly replied.
However, both their spirits ached at their loss.
Nearly two years later, Bob walks along the beach at the French Riviera. He has learned to surf and
visits Jacques and his friends. Nonetheless, in all this time, he knows nothing of Li’s fate; and he
begins to doubt she ever cared for him. Just as he is about to lose hope, Bob sees a vision of Li
running down the beach toward him. For an instant, Bob believes it is a dream, until reality,
spirituality, passion and joy all became one.
