Master's in Professional Practice is a work-related, flexible, part-time learning programme designed for participants from private, public and third sector settings such as health and social care; education; local government; public services; human resources; administrative services; cultural industries or the arts.
The programme offers you the opportunity to attain academic recognition for the skills, knowledge and experience that you have developed in the workplace. Focusing on a specific area of practice relevant to your work, it builds on your work experience and qualifications to enhance your career progression.
You explore your profession further and consider the professional challenges associated within your specific area of practice, with modules that have been designed to help you review and analyse the current debates relevant to the professional context in which you are working.

About the programme
A postgraduate programme that gives you the
opportunity to gain academic recognition for the skills,
knowledge and experience you have developed in the
workplace. The programme has been specifically
designed to meet the needs of participants from the
private, public and third sectors.
The programme offers:
• The option to gain Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma,
MA or MSc
• Three years, part-time study
• Module delivery over extended weekends
(typically Friday to Sunday)
• The chance to select optional modules of personal
and professional interest in Stage 2
• The opportunity to gain accreditation of prior learning
Programme structure, content and
delivery
All students on the Professional Practice programme
take the following core modules in Stage 1:
• Learning and Development:
Friday 20 – Sunday 22 October 2017
Friday 24 – Saturday 25 November 2017
• Evidence Based Practice:
Friday 26 - Sunday 28 January 2018
• Inter-professional Working:
Friday 23 – Sunday 25 March 2018
Taught sessions typically commence at 9.00am
and end at 5.00pm.
Although all teaching dates are provisional, these
will only be changed in exceptional circumstances.
On successful completion of Stage 1 students may
choose to progress to the next stage of the programme.
Stage 2:
• Research Skills
Plus optional modules from either the Centre for
Professional Practice or across the University
(subject to availability).
CPP optional modules include:
• Power Dynamics Within Professional Practice
• Qualitative Research Methods Applied to Professional
Practice
Stage 3:
• Work-based Project and Dissertation
Core modules are taught at Kent's Medway campus.
Depending on your choice of optional modules, you
may have the opportunity to attend the University’s
Canterbury campus.
Teaching and assessment
You will be asked to undertake preparatory module
reading and associated tasks, deliver presentations
and carry out work-based investigations.
Fees
Annual fee for 2017/18: £2,620
Annual fees for 2018/19 are subject to annual fee
incremental rises.
Postgraduate loans for Master’s degrees are available
(subject to eligibility criteria).
