- 12. Attendance: • No excused absences • Late is the same as absent. • Zero on any work missed • 2 lowest grades on in-class writing assignments are dropped. • 2 lowest grades on quizzes are dropped. • Final exam, midterm exam and outside writing assignment cannot be dropped.
- 13. Outside writing assignment: • Pitch an idea by July 27 • Draft due Aug. 21 • Final story due Sept. 4 • 600-800 words • Grade cannot be dropped • Part of final exam
- 14. Quizzes and tests: • Quiz on most Mondays that covers news, lectures and textbook readings from the previous week. • Midterm and final exams are writing stories in class. • In addition, part of the final exam is the outside writing assignment.
- 15. Class participation: • Asking questions and participating in discussions helps others. • Class participation will be part of your final grade.
- 16. Accuracy: • Any major error of fact will result in a zero on that assignment.
- 17. Deadlines • No late assignments will be accepted. • You will receive a zero.
- 18. Grading of stories: • Lead (intro) • Content • Attribution • Organization • Writing
- 19. Final grade: • 80 marks = final exam • 6 marks = Tutorial No. 1: quizzes, in- class writing assignments, class participation • 8 marks = Tutorial #2: midterm in- class writing assignment • 6 marks = Tutorial #3: quizzes, in- class writing assignments, class participation

- 22. Course schedule • Read textbook assignments before the week dedicated to that topic. • Most Mondays, a quiz on news, readings and lectures discussed in the previous week
