5. Swine Flu/Influenza A
 Swine influenza is a respiratory disease of
pigs.
 H1N1 Fever is called swine flu as it is similar to
virus found in pigs.
 H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the
throat/ nasal cavity to grow and show symptoms
 The viral infection is deep in the lungs rather
than throat. Humans do not have an immunity
to fight from this.

6. Symptoms
Similar to symptoms of regular human flu.
In severe cases shortness of breathe, chest pain,
blue lips.
May include diarrhea and vomiting
May cause more serious symptoms in individuals
with chronic medical conditions
Pneumonia, respiratory failure have also been
reported

9. Precautionary measures
i. Avoid close contact with people having similar
symptoms
ii. Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth
after touching contaminated surfaces.
Maintain hygiene.
iii. Gargle twice a day
iv. Clean your nostrils at least once a day
v. Consume vitamin C enriched foods.
vi. Drink warm liquids
