A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. Thanks to advances made with assistance from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, many people with the disease now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond. At MUSC we have Pediatric and Adult Cystic Fibrosis centers and treat over 200 patients.<br />Please help support all of our patients!<br />The Great Strides Walk, an annual fundraising event, will be held at<br />Stella Maris on Sullivan’s Island - Saturday May 15th.<br />Join the MUSC CF Team at this event!<br />
