Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, promising self-driving cars, medical breakthroughs, and new ways of working. But how do you separate hype from reality? How can your company apply AI to solve real business problems?
Here’s what AI learnings your business should keep in mind for 2017.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.

Hereby presenting the worst earthquake in the history of the world. So many people died in that earthquake as there was this tsunami who nearly damaged as much as the earthquake did. I have collected as much as data I could collect. Hope it is helpful.
This powerpoint was compiled on 14 January just two days after the devastating earthquake to hit Haiti. I have purposely avoided including precise data, aware that things will change as the days pass. The presentation could be used with any year group though it is probably more suited to older students such as those preparing for EDEXCEL's A2 research unit about tectonic activity and hazards. Having seen the presentation students could be asked to explain why the death rate is likely to be so high. There are many direct and indirect factors that could be included.
A very detailed PowerPoint on the 2010 disaster: Haiti Earthquake. The PPT includes:
The background info of the quake
Maps showing the location of Haiti and the epicentre
The reason why the earthquake occurred
The immediate damage
The aftermath
Foreign aid info (including an ITN news video of a UK firefighter rescue)
Continuing problems
Long term recovery
Pictures of the devastation/rescue efforts
A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
2. A massive earthquake has hit
central Chile
There ware massive earthquake in Chile. The
8.8 quake caused widespread damage,
destroying buildings, bridges and roads in
many areas. Some lifelines were cut. Chilean
President Michele Bachelet said that
altogether two million people had been
affected.
3. Tsunami
That earthquake caused tsunami.In Hawaii,
Tahiti and New Zealand, residents in coastal
areas were warned to move to higher ground.
Hawaii later lifted its tsunami warning after
waves measuring just under 1m high struck
but caused no damage.
4. Damages
The earthquake brought some damages.
The earthquake struck 115km north-east of
the city of Concepcion and 325km south-
west of the capital Santiago. It is the biggest
to hit Chile in 50 years.
5. At least 85 people died in the region of
Maule alone, local journalists there said.
Television pictures showed a major bridge at
Concepcion had collapsed into the Biobio
river. Rescue teams are finding it difficult to
reach Concepcion because of damage to
infrastructure, national television reported.
In Santiago, where at least 13 people were
killed, several buildings collapsed - including
a car park where dozens of cars were
smashed.
6. Damage to Santiago international airport's
terminal will keep it closed for at least 72
hours. Flights are being diverted to Mendoza
in Argentina. Tsunami waves reached the
Juan Fernandez island group, reaching
halfway into one inhabited area. Local media
say that five people died there and several
others are missing.
7. After earthquake
One journalist speaking to Chilean national
television from the city of Temuco, 600km
south of Santiago, determined to spend the
rest of the night outside. Chile is highly
vulnerable to earthquakes as it is situated on
the Pacific "Ring of Fire", on the edge of the
Pacific and South American plates. Chile
suffered the biggest earthquake of the 20th
century when a 9.5 magnitude quake struck
the city of Valdivia in 1960, killing 1,655
people.
