This document discusses how SUSE Cloud Application Platform provides a free and open source Platform as a Service (PaaS) that abstracts Kubernetes infrastructure and provides easy day-2 operations through APIs and a web UI. It can deploy a PaaS on any Kubernetes cluster in any cloud, allowing code to run in production without writing Kubernetes YAML files. Buildpacks are also discussed as a way to provide generic and reusable build pipelines for PaaS and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) use cases.

5. CaaS + CI/CD ‘vs’ PaaS - Different Use Cases
CI/CD + CaaS systems are good for:
Specialized applications with specific build requirements
Extremely large or complex projects
Legacy applications with a slow rate of change
Teams with embedded Ops expertise
PaaS systems are good for:
Standard web/API applications using common web frameworks
Microservices and smaller, one-off projects
Applications which change constantly
Teams relying on centralized Ops or global policies
…but they are not mutually exclusive, and the line is blurring

6. Buildpacks are generic build pipelines
Buildpacks bring extensibility to PaaS and repeatability to
CI/CD.
Specific to a language or framework, not specific to an
application or project
Controlled by centralized IT, if that is a requirement
Can be chained together for multi-framework applications
Can be updated globally by platform operators or vendors (e.g.
updating the platform and all apps for a CVE)
