MARKET RESEARCH / SURVEY REPORT
Survey Predictions27/03/2014
I am unsure exactly what kind of result to expect from this survey, as from my experience, the target market is based more
on interests and personality than demographics, but it will be interesting to see if this is the case. At an educated guess, I
would assume the main kinds of people attracted to Tale of Tales games are female, aged 12-24. Since these games are
often cheap or even free, and considering how unusual and idiosyncratic the games are, I do not think the typical player
will be a hard gamer.

Aim27/03/2014
The goal of my survey will be primarily to discover who the main current audience of Tale of Tale’s is. This is why I am not
concerned with who I ask- the wider variety of people I ask, the more revealing will the results be. I also have the search to
narrow my results to a specific demographic at a later stage. It will be interesting to find what kind of people are typically
attracted to these games, and what their opinions of my posters are. Discovering the demographics of this audience will
allow me to look at my target market as a whole, even if the individual respondents have yet to play any of the games in
question. I can compare the results of this audience with the opposite not target audience in order to see if there is/what
the difference of opinion is, and know which design direction to take.

The Resultas of02/03/2014 (86 responses)
Of the people who have previously played a ToT game, the female/male ratio is relatively equal. This shows that
the attracted audience is actually split equally in terms of gender, if anything, there was more of a male majority.
However, of the people that still continue to play, the female majority is clear. Considering this, perhaps I ought
to aim my posters more toward the female market, as these seem to be the long term players.
The main age groups of people who play ToT game’s seems relatively consistent with those who have played, but
no longer do. This shows that the game’s current promotion already attracts the right kind of audience in terms
of age range, and I need to make sure that my posters continue to do this. The most popular age range that play
or have playedwas 25-34 years, with 18-24 years then 12-17 years following closely behind.
Filtering my results to show only responses from the target audience that would be attracted to these games
(female & male, 12-17 & 18-24), showed 15 totalresponses that included a filled in feedback form. Compared
with just 4 responses from the non-target audience. This confirms my target audience, showing that there is a lot
more interest there.
The opinions of my posters actually proved fairly equal throughout the overall result, target audience, and none
target audience. Some of the options were definite across the board, and others were close, for which I have
relied more on the target market for opinion. These are the designs that were most popular:
Criticism that I received included the following:
“Some of the posters do not describe the setting or have any meaning. I imagine most posters giving me a set idea of things to

expect within the game. All I got was a Elk with a mans face.”
“So far, most of these designs are very good but they look a little simplistic. Simple is good, but maybe you could add a border or
vary the composition a little - like on "Fatale", "Vanitas" and "LuxuriaSuperbia". Maybe you could try change the perspective (e.g. use
a bird's eye view) or add some sort of background, for example on "LuxuriaSuperbia" you could have a small library or medieval-like
office filled with lots of things (old maps, compass, shells, books, etc) scattered around the room or on a wooden table - or
something like that. :) It just feels like something is missing or is a bit empty from those posters in particular. I hope this helped!”
“I think you need to add a few more elements to the image for that early seventies film poster feel. A bit collage like, but drawn
together in the same style.”

Taking these comments into consideration, it‟s clear that I need to add more visual elements to fill up the page.
Perhaps more of a background or setting, would benefit some of the designs, without taking away that „abstract‟,
„intriguing‟ sense that many of the ToTvideo games encompass.

The graphs below show how I discovered my target market:
