- On Wednesday May 22, several dozen young men from Windermere headed out to Maple Ridge for a daylong team building session. The Windermere Young Men s ’ Club is a new club designed for men of all ages at the secondary school to develop their collaboration and leadership skills with the help of positive role models and mentors. 13-06-18
- On Tuesday May 28 I visited with Russ Evans teacher extraordinaire at Tupper Tech to see among other things, the 3d printer that can extrude 3d models of creations that students first draw using auto-cad. 13-06-18
- On Tuesday, May 28 I toured Livingstone Elementary with four wonderful student ambassadors from grades 1 and 7 respectively. Here I am being shown the Earth Garden that the students look after. 13-06-18
- The Vancouver School Board recently partnered with the Park Board and the Learning Partnership to introduce Physical Literacy to the “Welcome to Kindergarten” orientation sessions. The first school to benefit from this partnership was Selkirk Elementary. 13-06-18
- On Wednesday, May 29, hundreds of special education students from across the district crowded into Eric Hamber ’s gym amid much fanfare. The students were there to participate in the annual Passport to Play sports event for students with disabilities. More than 220 students from Life Skills and other special education classes at 11 VSB high schools participated along with many teachers and support workers. VDSC students and volunteers from the P.E. Leadership class at Hamber along with community coaches led the students through a series of activities including basketball, softball, bocce-ball, dance, yoga, sledge-hockey, wrestling, soccer, dance and a wide variety of other events. 13-06-18
- On Wednesday, May 29, students showed up in droves on their bikes for L ’École Bilingue’s annual Bikers ’ Breakfast celebrated as part of the bike to school and work week. The event was a great success with hundreds of students donning helmets and riding to school. 13-06-18
- On Thursday, May 30, Grandview students participated in a blessing ceremony of tiles produced through Project Heart , a learning experience where students explored the tragic history of residential schools and the impact on Aboriginal people. 13-06-18
- On Friday, May 30, the Scientists-in-Residence program got another big boost with support from CIBC Wood Gundy, who have been long-time contributors to the program. Following this photo op, students learned about owl biology by dissecting owl pellets – a favourite activity for my biology students when I used to teach. 13-06-18
- On Friday, May 31 st , Seymour Elementary headed out to Richmond where they joined Westwind Elementary for a celebratory lunch to close the successful Immersed in the Arts Program. The program was made possible thanks to generous City and Community Arts Council funding (Richmond). 13-06-18
- On Friday, May 31 st staff and students at Fleming Elementary celebrated the school’s centennial with a wonderful carnival, decade rooms and lots of cake for everyone. The event enjoyed a great turnout and was an excellent opportunity for the many alumni and staff who had attended or taught at the school to relive fond memories of the good old days. 13-06-18
- On Friday, May 31 st , Alternative Ed Program students converged at Brockton Oval at Stanley Park where they competed in a wide-range of events including long jump, high jump, a 400 meter run, relay races, soccer and, Kurt tells me, the favourite event of all – donut eating. 13-06-18
- On Saturday, June 1, students from MacCorkindale Elementary headed to the Dugout, a drop-in centre in the Downtown Eastside, where they served food and cake to patrons. After some initial hesitancy, students quickly dove into the work with great enthusiasm. 13-06-18
- 1000th Primary Years Programme at Southlands annual Aboriginal Education, Grade 12 Achievement Celebration (Dinner & Ceremony) on Thursday, June 6 th , 2013. This year, the event will be held at the Croatian Cultural Centre Pinnacle Grad June 13 t 13-06-18
