Mat langs nasjonale turistveger Stockholm 2013Egil Thorsen
MAT LANGS NASJONALE TURISTVEGER
4. FROM PURE BODY FOCUS TO HOLISTIC HEALTH Trend description: Every day one can read in different magazines and websites how to take care of ones body and how to loose those extra kilos. But the focus has turned from the body to the soul. Health is increasingly seen from a holistic perspective. Examples: This phenomena observed has been reflected within the travel and tourism industry for some time, the spa segment has shown excellent growth rates. Also, the spa is no longer reserved for the women. There is an increase in family-friendly spas all over the world with treatments specially designed for kids and teenagers as well. The interest for the Asian way of living (philosophy, food, design etc.) is growing. The medical tourism is reaching top levels in South-East Asia and India
5. Consequences for the Norwegian tourism industry: Asia is the classical destination for body&soul products with a long tradition in this field and with low wages that enables good offers and extensive services. The challenge for Norway is to find its own identity in order to be able to surf on this trend. For the domestic market, traditional spa products are requested. But in an international perspective e.g. the Norwegian hiking tradition could be more successful, only adjusted to the needs of new generations. The challenge is to conceptualize the Norwegian way of feeling good! This trend will most probably continue to grow as the western welfare system is changing.
Professor Arvid Flagestad 2009
