Tales of modernizing trello's web stackVincent Kok
The web community is a fast moving community and over the recent years, many great frameworks and tools have emerged. Technology changes made in the past are not always the right ones today. This applies to Trello’s web stack too. CoffeeScript and Backbone were great choices 7 years ago but there are better tools and frameworks available now, so the Trello team decided to update its stack. But, how does one tackle this and how do you make sure you continue to innovate product-wise while modernizing its web stack? This is what we will discuss in this session -- main drivers for modernizing, the reasoning for choosing for TypeScript, React and GraphQL and will discuss our strategy implementing it, including two failed attempts. When leaving this session you will have learned which tactics to apply when modernizing a web stack and warning signs to be aware off.
Dileep and Kapil, co-leaders of AUG NYC, will present the highlights from the Summit that includes announcements and mentions of the most interesting talks.

6 Strategies to Uncover Growth Opportunities for Your BusinessAtlassian
If there is one commonality between all the fast growth company success stories like Airbnb, Uber, or HubSpot, it's that they're all crazy about measuring and tracking their data and numbers. In order to grow fast, you have to know where your growth comes from and where you lose. However, there's a second part of the equation that is equally important, yet less discussed and that is the qualitative side to growth. Companies also need to be able to understand the why, why they're growing (or not), and that answer is not always found in data. In this talk, I will describe both the quantitative and qualitative ways you can uncover growth opportunities for your business through experimentation. Experimentation can help you build and validate your product's roadmap and ensure you're focusing your resources on what will bring growth.

App modernization projects are hard. Enterprises are looking to cloud-native platforms like Pivotal Cloud Foundry to run their applications, but they’re worried about the risks inherent to any replatforming effort.
Fortunately, several repeatable patterns of successful incremental migration have emerged.
In this webcast, Google Cloud’s Prithpal Bhogill and Pivotal’s Shaun Anderson will discuss best practices for app modernization and securely and seamlessly routing traffic between legacy stacks and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
Sildes of an internal talk given at Twitter similar to a previous webinar for Redhat with the same title.
Speeding up development is a key concern, cloud and technology improvements like Docker speed up key steps that make continuous delivery possible. Breaking up the work into many separate microservices and datastores with stable APIs allows teams to make progress independently so that the organization scales. Monolithic apps are preferred for small projects, built by small teams and when very low latency and high efficiency is the primary requirement. Monitoring microservices is currently a challenge with solutions starting to emerge.
Enterprise DevOps is different then DevOps in startups and smaller companies. This session how AWS/CSC address this. How AWS IaaS level automation via CloudFormation, UserData, Console, APIS and some PaaS OpsWorks/Beanstalk is complimented by CSC Agility Platform. CSC Agility adds application compliance and security to the AWS infrastructure compliance and security. CSC Agility allows for the creation of architecture blueprints for predefined application offerings.
The document discusses best practices for accelerating the transformation to mature software manufacturing using DevOps principles. It recommends adopting modern approaches like microservices, serverless architectures, infrastructure as code, and event-driven architectures to increase speed and agility. Automating testing and deployments through continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) pipelines is key. The document advocates treating infrastructure like code and using tools like AWS CodePipeline and GitLab to enable self-service platforms and faster delivery through automation.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
