The eye receives its blood supply from two vascular systems - the retinal vessels and the ciliary (uveal) vessels. The retinal vessels include the central retinal artery and vein, which arise from the ophthalmic artery, a branch of the internal carotid artery. The ciliary vessels include the anterior and posterior ciliary arteries. Both systems anastomose to form circulations in the retina and choroid. The choroid has a dense capillary network called the choriocapillaris that supplies the outer retina. The retina and optic nerve have autoregulatory mechanisms to maintain constant blood flow despite changes in perfusion pressure, while the choroid has limited autoregulation.
This document discusses newer tests for diagnosing glaucoma, including dynamic contour tonometry, ocular response analyzer, rebound tonometry, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and various imaging techniques and tests for assessing the optic nerve, retinal nerve fiber layer, visual fields, and detection of apoptosing retinal cells. These newer tests aim to detect glaucoma earlier and more accurately than traditional tests like Goldmann applanation tonometry.

Corneal Degenerations - Dr Arnav SaroyaDrArnavSaroya
Corneal degeneration refers to conditions where the normal corneal cells undergo degenerative changes due to age or pathology. There are many types of corneal degeneration classified based on etiology and location. Common types include arcus senilis, band keratopathy, lipid depositions, crocodile shagreen, and Terrien's marginal degeneration. Corneal degenerations can cause visual symptoms but often do not require treatment for mild cases. Severe degenerations may be treated with procedures like excimer laser, lamellar keratoplasty, or penetrating keratoplasty to improve vision or relieve discomfort.

Eye floaters are small spots or strings that drift across the field of vision. They are usually caused by age or minor injuries to the vitreous gel inside the eye. Most floaters are harmless and do not require treatment, but seeing a doctor is recommended if floaters are accompanied by flashes of light, loss of vision, or other eye problems.

Visual functions in patients on ethambutol therapy for tuberculosis. Himal Ka...University of Sydney
This document summarizes a study on the effects of ethambutol therapy on visual function in patients being treated for tuberculosis. The following key points are made:
1) Ethambutol toxicity can occur even at low doses and cause permanent vision loss, so regular eye screening is important.
2) The study evaluated 44 Nepali patients receiving ethambutol therapy, finding subclinical effects including reduced visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and retinal response on ERG testing.
3) While no patients developed clinical symptoms, these subclinical changes indicate that ethambutol is affecting visual function even without causing overt toxicity symptoms. Regular eye screening may help detect toxicity earlier.
This document discusses ocular trauma, including classifications, signs, symptoms, and treatments. It covers various types of trauma such as blunt trauma, penetrating trauma, chemical injuries, and injuries from foreign bodies. Key points include that ocular trauma is a leading cause of blindness, often requires urgent treatment to prevent vision loss, and can be prevented through use of protective eyewear. Proper documentation and comparing both eyes are emphasized for patient evaluation and management.
This document discusses the evaluation and management of uveitic glaucoma. It begins by defining uveitic glaucoma and noting that 10% of uveitis patients will develop elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) or open-angle glaucoma. The pathophysiology of secondary glaucoma from uveitis is described. Treatment principles aim to reduce inflammation, control IOP, and prevent permanent damage. Cycloplegics, corticosteroids, and sometimes immunosuppressants are used to control inflammation. Topical medications, laser treatments, and surgeries may be needed to control IOP depending on the mechanism and severity. Close monitoring is important with this patient population.
Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is the most common type of glaucoma. It is characterized by a gradual, painless rise in intraocular pressure (IOP) due to impaired drainage of aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork. Over time, this leads to progressive damage to the optic nerve and characteristic visual field defects. Risk factors include age, family history, high myopia, and conditions like diabetes. Treatment aims to lower IOP through medications like prostaglandin analogs or surgery like trabeculectomy to slow disease progression and preserve vision.

Generalized B2B Machine Learning by Andrew WaageData Con LA
Abstract:- In this talk, we propose a generalized machine learning framework for e-commerce businesses. The framework is responsible for over 30 different user-level predictions including lifetime value, recommendations, churn predictions, engagement and lead scoring. These predictions provide a vital layer of intelligence for a digital marketer. Kinesis is used to capture browsing information from over 120M users across 100 companies (both in-app and web). A data processing and feature engineering layer is build on Apache Spark. These features provide inputs to predictive models for business applications. Different models each for Churn, Lifetime value, Product recommendation and search are written on Spark. These models can be plugged into any marketing campaign for any integrated e-commerce company leading to a generalized system. We finally present a monitoring system for machine learning called RS Sauron. This system provides more than 200 objective metrics measuring the health of predictive models, and depicts KPIs for model accuracy in a continual setting.

Big Data Expo 2015 - Data Science Center EindhoveBigDataExpo

General physicians known as consultant physician/pediatricians (CPPs) have undergone rigorous medical training but their skills vary widely. They are well-trained in diagnosing and managing complex medical conditions. CPPs could serve in several roles for the ADF, including providing consultations for individual service members, advising on health policy, and working in level 2 or 3 medical facilities. A short modular training program could help update CPPs on relevant areas like emergency medicine and tropical diseases to better prepare them for operational roles.
