ORGANIZATIONL DESIGN
 Organizational design is the process of aligning the structure of an organization with its objectives, with the ultimate aim of improving efficiency and
effectiveness.
 In simpler terms, “Organizational Design” refers to defining, designing, and re-structuring organizational structure.
 Organizational design sets the leadership structure of a company and establishing reporting relationships.
 A key component of the best organizational design is ensuring it reflects and supports the desired culture, and promotes the way of being, working and
relating in people that will optimize performance and results.
 Organizational design helps improve communication, increase productivity, and inspire innovation. It creates an environment where people can work
effectively.

Functional
Product
Market
Combination or matrix considerations
Factors influencing organizational design:
IMPACT OF ORGANIZATION DESIGN
 Increased efficiency.
 Faster and more effective decision making.
 Improved quality of goods and services.
 Higher profits.
 Better customer relations.
 Safer working conditions.
 A happier, healthier and more motivated workforce.
SUCCESS IN ORGANIZATION DESIGN
Clarity:
It provides clarity in reporting relationships, decision-making, information flows and work processes. With a well-crafted design, everyone
knows exactly what they are responsible for doing, who they report to and what other co-workers are responsible for doing. This can be advantageous in
increasing operational efficiency, especially for larger companies.
Adaptability:
Organizational design strategies respond to predominant marketplace conditions and industry trends.
Synchronize design with strategy:
Regardless of the precipitating factor, the organization must align with the organization’s strategy and business priorities in the
simplest way possible.
FAILURES IN ORGANIZATION DESIGN
Poor organizational design results :
 Confusion within roles
 A lack of coordination among functions
 Failure to share ideas
FAILURES IN ORGANIZATION DESIGN
Inadequate Support from Leadership:
Organizational Design does not succeed without leadership support. And lip service is not enough. Leaders must champion and model the
change for the rest of the organization,in both what they say and do. They must be active, consistently supporting the change teams as they design and
implement changes.
Failure at the top :
upper management isn’t making educated decisions, or members of upper management are simply making very bad decisions despite the
resources they have available.
Lack of Resources:
Lack of resources is one of the most common reason of failure. Adoption and sustainment of change are long term investments
