500 poses for photographing group portraitsVinh Nguyen
This document is the introduction to the book "500 Poses for Photographing Group Portraits" by Michelle Perkins. It discusses how photographing groups poses additional challenges beyond photographing individuals, as the subjects must look good individually and collectively while also establishing relationships between them. The book contains over 500 sample photographs of groups arranged by number of subjects, from two subjects to over fifteen, to provide inspiration for photographers working with groups. It aims to help photographers facing challenges with group poses or seeking new ideas to freshen their work.
500 poses for photographing women a visual sourcebook for portrait photographersVinh Nguyen
This document is a book about posing women for portraits. It provides over 500 sample portrait photographs grouped by how much of the subject is shown. The book is intended to serve as a visual source of inspiration for photographers looking for new pose ideas. It covers poses from head-and-shoulders to full-length standing, seated and reclining poses. The goal is to help photographers break out of ruts and remain creative with different posing styles.
This document discusses the development of a new type of battery that could significantly increase the range of electric vehicles. It describes how the battery uses a solid electrolyte material rather than a liquid one, which could store more energy more safely and reduce costs. The document concludes by stating that the battery technology has been licensed by several major car companies and could lead to electric cars that can travel 500 miles on a single charge within the next five years.
The document discusses lighting techniques used in filmmaking. It covers the responsibilities of the lighting director and how lighting is used to create illumination, mood, and guide attention. It then describes the four major features of filmic lighting: quality, direction, source, and color. Finally, it explains the components and setup of the basic three-point lighting technique, including the key light, fill light, and back light.

This document discusses different types of lighting and sound techniques used in filmmaking. It describes various lighting setups like ambient light, back light, and color gels that can be used to illuminate scenes or distort lighting for artistic purposes. It also discusses sound bridging, parallel/contrapointal sound, diegetic sound from within the scene, and non-diegetic sound added during editing. The document provides definitions and examples of these various cinematic lighting and sound techniques.
The document summarizes a workshop on studio photography. It discusses principles of artificial lighting including using it to control light and sculpt with light. It describes the basic goal of studio lighting to recreate natural light highlights and shadows. It then explains the basic four light studio setup including key, fill, background, and accent lights. Finally, it discusses different types of portrait lighting like Rembrandt, loop, butterfly, and split lighting.
The presentation discusses light and lighting fixtures. It defines light and how it is produced through electrons moving between orbits in atoms. It then covers the different types of light sources including natural light and various artificial lights. The rest of the presentation focuses on methods of lighting, including types of lighting fixtures for indoor and outdoor use. It also addresses the effects of lighting in different areas and the advantages and disadvantages of natural versus artificial light.
The key light is the most important light in a 3-point lighting setup and is used to highlight the main subject. The fill light is also part of the 3-point setup and lessens shadows created by the key light. The back light illuminates the subject from behind to create separation from the background.
Lighting in cinematography is determined by three factors: the light source (whether natural or artificial), the quality of light (ranging from high to low contrast, and soft to hard), and the direction of the light. Proper lighting is crucial for analyzing other cinematography elements such as framing, focal depth, and how the subject is presented in the shot.
This document discusses different types of lighting used in photography, including hard light and soft light. Hard light comes from a small light source and creates sharp shadows, while soft light has a larger source or diffusion material and fills shadows. Common lighting fixtures mentioned are fresnels, ellipsoidals, and scoops. Methods for softening hard light include moving the light closer, using reflectors to bounce light, umbrellas, and placing diffusion materials between the light and subject.
This document discusses ways to reduce energy usage from lighting in buildings through green practices. It recommends using natural daylight whenever possible through proper window and skylight design. When artificial lights are needed, the right amount and type of lighting should be used based on the task. Different lighting technologies like LEDs and fluorescents are more efficient than incandescent bulbs. Automatic controls can further reduce energy by turning lights off when not needed or adjusting output based on daylight.
Last February 17, 2012, the 2nd IIEE-CRCSA Technical Seminar kicked off with a good response from the members and non-members with the participation of more than 100 who showed-up at the White Palace Hotel, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Seminar title was “Basics of Indoor Lighting using DIALux”. The seminar was conducted by Engr. Michael T. Santiago, a Lighting Application & Design Engineer from Saudi Lighting Company. The participants were awed by his DIALux 4.10 software demonstration specially when he imported a room layout from AutoCad drawing and applied the lighting calculation on it which later provided a very nice colored 3-D drawing of the room. A continuation of this seminar which is “Basics of Outdoor Lighting” will be presented on the incoming 14th Midyear Convention.

The document provides tips for basic photography. It discusses the importance of composition, exposure, lens, and light. For composition, it recommends uncluttering the frame, placing the subject off-center, using lines and frames to guide the eye, and capturing from unexpected angles. For exposure, it discusses aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings and how they impact motion, depth of field, and light levels. It also provides principles and rules of thumb for using different lenses and lighting techniques.
Photography 101 - a introduction to photography and the basics of exposure. Learn techniques for shutter speed, aperture and ISO and how they relate to one another.
Stage lighting has several functions including illumination, revelation of form, focus, mood, location/time of day, projection of stage elements, and advancing the plot. Various lighting instruments like fixtures, dimmers, and lighting consoles are used to control lighting properties like intensity, color, pattern, focus, and position to achieve different lighting styles such as high-key and low-key lighting.
The document provides an overview of basic strobe positioning techniques for underwater photographers. It defines common housing and strobe equipment terms. It then gives guidelines for strobe placement in different situations, including macro, wide angle, and shooting vertical subjects. Strobe positioning is adjusted based on factors like subject distance, use of flat or dome ports, and the goal of avoiding hot spots or flares in the final image. Diagrams demonstrate the principles of pivoting strobes in and out and adjusting their height and distance from the housing for various photographic styles and conditions.
This document provides information on various studio portrait lighting techniques, including Rembrandt, butterfly, and edge lighting. Rembrandt lighting uses a single light at a 45 degree angle to create a triangular highlight under the eye. Butterfly lighting positions the key light high above and in front of the subject to cast a butterfly-shaped shadow. Edge lighting uses side lighting to define one side of the face, creating higher contrast. The document explains the setup for each technique and provides examples of their use in portraits. It instructs photographers to practice these techniques in groups and present example images, with analysis of any technical errors encountered.
The document discusses lighting techniques used in film noir style. It defines film noir lighting as using stark contrasts between light and shadows to create a moody atmosphere. It explains the key light, fill light, and back light, symbols used to represent them, and their purposes. The key light provides the main light source, the fill light softens shadows, and the back light separates the subject from the background. Ratios for lighting intensity are provided, with film noir using a higher ratio of fill light to key light than traditional lighting. Examples are given showing the effects of each light added individually to a subject.
This document discusses different types of lighting used in photography. There are natural lights like the sun and artificial lights like speedlights and strobes. The positioning of lights can create different effects, including butterfly lighting with a shadow under the nose, Rembrandt lighting with an illuminated triangle under the eye, split lighting lighting one side of the face, short lighting making the subject look thinner, broad lighting making the face look larger, and loop lighting with a small loop shadow by the nose. Different lighting styles suit different facial structures and purposes.
