CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR EVALUATION SUMMARY FOR YISEHAK TURA - NOVEMBER24, 2015
I. Executive Summary
Students were asked to participate in an anonymous survey in the evaluation of Yisehak Tura, their clinical instructor,
on the effectiveness of his overall clinical teaching. The survey included questions about the students’ overall clinical
experience with their instructor. It asked questions about their interaction with their instructor, approachability, his
ability in providing feedback on students’ strength and weakness, and his relationships with the students. The survey also
asked respondents to give open comments for their instructor. A total of 17 responses were received from a total of 17
surveys expected to be filled during class time.
Items on the survey were worded as positive statements or direct questions, and included the following topics:
● Asking questions or expressing views
● Application of clinical knowledge to clinical practice
● Feedback to students strength and weakness
● Facilitation of learning in the clinical setting
● Availability of the instructor in clinical setting to assist students
● Relationship with students in clinical setting
● Informing students of their professional responsibilities and
● Overall effectiveness of clinical teaching
Note: The complete survey questionnaire is included later in this document for reference.
II. Methodology
The survey forms were developed from Oermann & Gaberson (2014) textbook sample clinical teaching effectiveness
survey. A preliminary draft of the survey was then sent to my cohort graduate nurse educator students and reviewed by
Dr. Patricia Young. Appropriate changes were made after getting feedback from my colleagues and Dr. Young.
The final survey form asked clinical students to respond to the questionnaires to help their instructor improve his clinical
teaching. Respondents were asked to complete the questionnaires and return the survey to their instructor. The
instructor under evaluation was not present during the first time when the first round of students completed the survey.
The remainder of the students filled out the survey during class time when the instructor was present. The survey was
distributed and collected by another instructor to give privacy to the students filling the evaluation.
The instructor checked returned surveys for missing information and responses that would cause scanning errors. After
scanning, the responses were imported into Microsoft® Excel and errors were checked against the individual forms.
Data analysis was completed using Excel.
Note: The results reported can only be considered the opinions of the survey participants. They cannot be generalized to
represent the entire class as there were 17 students responded to the survey out of over 30 students. The reason was that
the instructor had only 17 of the total number of students in the class. The remainder of the students participated in a

clinical at a different site with a different instructor. Therefore, all students in this cohort were not eligible to evaluate the
instructor.
III. Demographics
Survey responses are collected from the demographic categories:
● Gender: All female, one male
● Education level: 4th semester nursing students
● Institution: Normandale CommunityCollege

IV. Overall Results
The measurement scale used to quantify survey questions is in a range of 1-6 , on a scale of 1 (needs improvement)
through 6 (very good).
13 out of 17 participants rated the clinical instructor at the highest scale (6-very good) in his overall
effectiveness of teaching.
3 out of 17 rated him at a scale of 5 (very good) and one student rated him at a satisfactory scale of 4.

  • 3. CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR EVALUATION SUMMARY FOR YISEHAK TURA - NOVEMBER24, 2015 I. Executive Summary Students were asked to participate in an anonymous survey in the evaluation of Yisehak Tura, their clinical instructor, on the effectiveness of his overall clinical teaching. The survey included questions about the students’ overall clinical experience with their instructor. It asked questions about their interaction with their instructor, approachability, his ability in providing feedback on students’ strength and weakness, and his relationships with the students. The survey also asked respondents to give open comments for their instructor. A total of 17 responses were received from a total of 17 surveys expected to be filled during class time. Items on the survey were worded as positive statements or direct questions, and included the following topics: ● Asking questions or expressing views ● Application of clinical knowledge to clinical practice ● Feedback to students strength and weakness ● Facilitation of learning in the clinical setting ● Availability of the instructor in clinical setting to assist students ● Relationship with students in clinical setting ● Informing students of their professional responsibilities and ● Overall effectiveness of clinical teaching Note: The complete survey questionnaire is included later in this document for reference. II. Methodology The survey forms were developed from Oermann & Gaberson (2014) textbook sample clinical teaching effectiveness survey. A preliminary draft of the survey was then sent to my cohort graduate nurse educator students and reviewed by Dr. Patricia Young. Appropriate changes were made after getting feedback from my colleagues and Dr. Young. The final survey form asked clinical students to respond to the questionnaires to help their instructor improve his clinical teaching. Respondents were asked to complete the questionnaires and return the survey to their instructor. The instructor under evaluation was not present during the first time when the first round of students completed the survey. The remainder of the students filled out the survey during class time when the instructor was present. The survey was distributed and collected by another instructor to give privacy to the students filling the evaluation. The instructor checked returned surveys for missing information and responses that would cause scanning errors. After scanning, the responses were imported into Microsoft® Excel and errors were checked against the individual forms. Data analysis was completed using Excel. Note: The results reported can only be considered the opinions of the survey participants. They cannot be generalized to represent the entire class as there were 17 students responded to the survey out of over 30 students. The reason was that the instructor had only 17 of the total number of students in the class. The remainder of the students participated in a

Therefore, all students in this cohort were not eligible to evaluate the instructor. III. Overall Results The measurement scale used to quantify survey questions is in a range of 1-6 , on a scale of 1 (needs improvement) through 6 (very good). 13 out of 17 participants rated the clinical instructor at the highest scale (6-very good) in his overall effectiveness of teaching. 3 out of 17 rated him at a scale of 5 (very good) and one student rated him at a satisfactory scale of 4.
