Eleven student unions aligned to various political parties, including ruling parties, today
submitted a memorandum to Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang, demanding
timely promulgation of the statute.
They also submitted a banner with signatures collected from ‘Mechi-Mahakali Campaign’ to the
CA Chair.
Kishor Bikram Malla, President, All Nepal National Free Students Union, aligned to CPN-UML,
said that they had submitted a banner with around 125,000 signatures collected from across the
Kathmandu Valley.
He said that a total of 300,000 signatures were collected from across the country during a three-
day Mechi-Mahakali Campaign to press the lawmakers for timely statute. “As many as 125,000
signatures were collected from the Kathmandu Valley, while 175,000 signatures were collected
from different parts of the country,” he said.
Addressing the students, Nembang today assured of statute within the deadline of January 22.
“The disputed issues of political parties have reached the CA from Constitutional Political
Dialogue and Consensus Committee,” he said, adding, “Constitution can be drafted within two
hours if the parties come to consensus on disputed issues.”
He also advised the students to pile pressure on their mother parties for consensus and timely
statute. Eleven student unions led by ANNFSU had organised a rally from Maitighar Mandala to
CA building before meeting Nembang.
The student unions are scheduled to organise various other programmes in the coming days to
press for timely promulgation of he statute.
