Position Title: Student Computing Support Technician
Department: Information and Instructional Technology Services
Hiring Rate: $10.62 per hour
Appointment: 8-16 hours/week for one school term
Possibility of renewal
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Lab Coordinator, the Student Computing Support Technician is responsible for
providing technical assistance to the UTSC community, primarily to other students.
Job Duties:
• Respond to frequent customer inquiries in person, by phone and by e-mail
• Provide first-level Residence Network (ResNet) support
• Assist clients in configuring wireless networking
• Assist in creating and supporting UTSC computer accounts
• Triage issues and assign accordingly by entering them in the IITS ticket database
• Provide information on services provided across Academic Resources
• Troubleshoot hardware and software problems
• Maintain printers, and photocopiers
• Attend ongoing training and regular meetings with the Lab Coordinator
• Explain and enforce Computing Facilities rules and regulations
• Responsible for opening and closing of computing facilities
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be a UTSC student
• Customer service skills with strong commitment to high quality service
• Excellent knowledge of computer hardware and software, TCP/IP networking and Microsoft Windows OS
XP, 2000.
• Ability to communicate effectively and patiently with both naïve and sophisticated users in person, by
phone and by e-mail
• Experience with Macintosh OS
