Let’s Talk Allergies and Antibiotics!
Allergies: The Cincinnati Tristate area is known to be a high allergy region.
Just because a student does not have a history of seasonal allergies does not
mean they could not have allergies once on campus. This is an important point
because often the signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis can be confused with
colds, flu or an upper respiratory infection that is not resolving. Our provider team
will work closely with your student to diagnose and treat.
Antibiotics: Our practice follows CDC recommendations and guidelines for
the appropriate utilization of antibiotics.
Which means: We do not automatically order antibiotics for URI’s. Treating a
viral infection with antibiotics does not help the viral infection and may
contribute to the alarming rise in antibiotic resistant bacterial infections.
25. Staying Healthy As a Student
Disrupted sleep patterns, poor nutrition, stress and
proximity to large groups of others can be
contributing factors in communicable disease
spread. A few tips for prevention strategies:
Proper Nutrition
Adequate Rest
Exercise and Stress Management
Frequent Handwashing
Avoid Sharing Drinking Glasses/Utensils
Flu Vaccination
