About me
I am an inquisitive systems and structures engineer who loves solving problems. My engineering
background has a diversity that ranges from an apprenticeship in welding and fabrication to more
than eight years working for one of the UK’s leading engineering consultancy firms.
Key skills
 Taking a step back and considering the system as a whole, before, developing a solution that is
tailored to my client’s problem;
 Proven trackrecord of working with clients to deliver against challenging projects in the aerospace,
defense, nuclear and conventional sectors;
 Ability to interact with staff at all levels of the project delivery cycle (I am as happy in a machine
shop as I am talking to the engineering director, and can alter my approach accordingly);
 Substantial experience in system design process including requirements capture and
considerations for manufacture, through life support and decommissioning.
Current Employment (since November 2007)
I am a Senior Engineer with Frazer-Nash Consultancy (FNC). FNC are a multidisciplinary engineering
consultancy that prefers to work with their clients to help them better understand their issues and then
offer solutions, rather than provide ‘power by the hour’ support.
Experience
As a consultant my recent experience is best expressed through projects I have delivered. I have
listed some of the clients I have worked with and summarized the support that I provided.
B/E Aerospace (aircraft interiors)
B/E are developing and manufacturing a new product range. I am leading a team of engineers from
FNC to supplement the certification team at B/E, as lead/part of that team my responsibilities are:
 On site focal, responsible for project delivery by the FNC team;
 Qualification of new systems and components, testing and reporting;
 Update the product design handbook to ensure implementation of current best practice;
 Design and manufacture of rigs for proof of concept testing;
 Identify and prioritise issues, generate problem reports and advise on engineering solutions to
ensure delivery targets are met.
Sellafield (UK based nuclear fuel reprocessing and decommissioning site)
My client was developing a new piece of ‘in-cave’ equipment for Sellafield; equipment that enables
remote operations to be conducted safely and reliably in a hazardous environment. My role was to
work alongside their designers to develop a body of evidence that demonstrated technical readiness,

allowing the project to progress through Sellafield’s gated review process. The work included:
 Requirements capture (to inform design and support proof of compliance);
 System Throughput Analysis (process mapping, reliability, availability, spares modelling);
 System failure mode analysis using FMEA / FMECA;
 Design for Manufacture/Maintenance;
 Training Needs Analysis (operator and maintainer);
Airbus (A320 Landing Gear Team)
I was embedded within a small team responsible for reacting to in-service incidents. My activities
ranged from:
 Analysis of flight test data (hydraulic actuation logs) to establish whether operations are
compliant with the existing operational justifications, or to review and update those justification,
potentially identifying and investigating alternative failure mechanisms;
 Reviewing maintenance reports to establish patterns of component deterioration/failure;
 Reviewing incident logs (e.g. failure of airport towing equipment resulting in collision with landing
gear) and making recommendations for corrective action;
 Authoring and reviewing maintenance manuals using the client’s documentation system.
Other Experience
Prior to my employment with FNC I worked as a product designer and analyst for Lancaster Product
Development Unit (between 2003 and 2007). This role required daily use of Solidworks and the
COSMOS analysis suite. All work was for small local companies, as a result most projects had to be
turned around in one week.
I have found that being time served (manufacturing apprenticeship) has been invaluable when
expanding my knowledge of design and process selection. One of the most rewarding parts of my job
is helping being able to apply this knowledge.

Outside Interests
I love doing anything that gets me outside and making the most of the available countryside. Being
from the North West of England I don’t let bad weather stop me. Last year I completed my first
marathon (from Bristol to Bath), my next challenge is a 40 mile walk for charity across the Lake District
