Service Line Overview
Medical Services (GMS) operates clinics at remote sites in countries where
international standards of medical care are not available or where cultural or language
barriers make it difficult to receive appropriate health care. The Medical Service arm
provides site specific medical services to global clients as determined by individual client
contracts.
Position Overview
The Off-Shore nurse is the sole provider of primary and emergency health care services to an
expatriate workforce and oversees all aspects of clinical medical management within the
clinic, including medical evacuation support.
In addition is responsible to position International SOS as the principal health care provider
in the off-shore community.
This position reports directly to the Vessel Master with functional relationships to key
position within the client structure as the Vessel Master dictates.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Make diagnoses and give emergency treatment to patients who are seriously injured
or have life-threatening conditions.
Deal with adverse and often dangerous situations which include responding to calls
known to have high risks of accidents and illnesses.
Send or accompany patient whose health conditions require knowledge, capabilities
and equipment of a specialized hospital.
Check the efficiency of vehicles and equipment to maintain a state of operational
readiness.
Create a record filing system as stated in the health plan to keep track of all previous
activities.
Maintain good relations to the medical structures selected in order to face any
possible emergencies.
Assess appropriate methods of conveying patients.
Assure that the medical fitness examinations of all the personnel on their respective
departments are current and performed.
Carry out regular (weekly) hygiene inspections.
Evaluate existing health risk within the unit concerned.
Perform a continuous monitoring of the state of health of the employees and
