Frames-as-assemblages: Theorising Frames in Contemporary Media Networks

The research proposes a conceptual model for designing a people-finding system in a learning environment. The system is intended to help learner in getting recommendation about suitable people who are interested on a similar topic and share common interest with the learner. We propose that by using the user-generated (text) content, social-bookmarking and social-tagging, driven by Web 2.0 paradigms, we can implicitly profile people and find people’s interests on a given topic. We also like to use their existing social connections as an evidence to select suitable people in recommending a learner.
JEM: a network for mathematics educators
This workshop provides an overview of current online teaching methods and content for mathematics at the high school and undergraduate levels in Europe. The event is organized by the JEM Network, which aims to connect mathematics educators. The presentation will introduce the JEM Network and its use of web2.0 tools to facilitate communication between developers, authors, and teachers in the mathematics community.
Does artificial neural network support connectivism’s assumptions?
Connectivism was presented as a learning theory for the digital age and connectivists claim that recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and, more specifically, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) support their assumptions of knowledge connectivity. Yet, very little has been done to investigate this brave allegation. Does the advancement in artificial neural network studies support connectivism’s assumptions? And if yes, to what extent? This paper addresses the aforementioned question by tackling the core concepts of ANN and matching them with connectivist's assumptions. The study employed the qualitative content analysis approach where the researcher started with purposely selected and relatively small content samples in connectivism and ANN literature. The results revealed that ANN partially supports connectivism’s assumptions but this does not mean that other learning theories such as behaviorism and constructivism are not supported as well. The findings enlighten our understanding of connectivism and where it may be applied.
Beyond Verbocentricity
This study examined how 18 high school students responded to and authored poetry using multimodal approaches. For responding, students identified keywords in poems and found online images to represent tone and negotiate meaning. When authoring, students composed extended metaphor poems using presentation software and Internet images. Data sources included student work, observations, and materials. Thematic analysis identified 3 networks: 1) Meaning-making is an active negotiation process over time and space; 2) Multimodal, non-verbal approaches increased engagement; 3) Technology allows expression of identity and agency in authorship. The study found multimodal approaches supported meaning-making and student agency more than constrained activities. It provides implications for practice incorporating images, design literacy, and avenues for student

Learning Networks and Connective Knowledge

Though we may research these separately, learners experience all of these at once, so learning is a complex phenomenon. Need to connect levels of analysis. Also need to bring in multiple "voices" or theoretical and research traditions, and learn how to manage productive multivocality among them. Two efforts towards this end are briefly described. If it takes on these challenges, Learning Analytics can help by enabling us to manage multiple levels of analysis.

Searching for patterns in crowdsourced information

A network model is proposed where different types of context define nodes and relationships between context determine edges. Properties of small world networks are discussed including how they could be used to model relationships between crowdsourced data and evaluate data quality. Finally, applications to search ranking, privacy and security are briefly mentioned.

XR for Higher Education: Experiential Design Affordances, Ethical Considerati...
Virtual & Augmented Reality are new computing paradigms that provide powerful new affordances for embodied learning, but there are also a lot of challenges in producing immersive experiences as they require a lot of subject matter expertise. The best practices for experiential design and development are also still emerging, and there are also new ethical considerations to keep in mind when deploying immersive technologies.
Kent ByeKent Bye has been speaking to thousands of immersive creators and innovators for the past seven years on the Voices of VR podcast, and he’ll be presenting about some of the new affordances of spatial computing as well as some of the underlying principles of embodied cognition that makes VR & AR a powerful medium for learning. He’ll also give a brief survey of some of the trends of immersive production, and the various experiential design tradeoffs between ease of production and robustness of interactivity and shared social spaces. Finally, he’ll do a brief survey of the ethical & privacy considerations to keep in mind for the higher educational context for XR.
This 45-minute talk + 45-minutes of Q&A will provide context for what’s happening at the frontiers of experiential design & education, tips & strategies for how to bootstrap the production & distribution of immersive educational content, and finally some of the ethical & moral dilemmas for educators to consider with the introduction of immersive technologies.

Associativity and other Wurban Things

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
