The current debates within progressive circles about the importance of “winning over” the white working class often fail to directly address the need for honest conversations about race, racism and xenophobia. It is tempting for many political strategists and funders to think that we can find and fund a short cut—better candidates, better field canvassing, better television ads, better framing etc... And, that these solutions will influence white, working class voters to (re)align with progressive candidates and causes.
These interventions are doomed from the start because they often focus on how to influence short-term behavior (voting) and fail to engage people in the honest conversations about how the race, racism, and xenophobia are being used to scapegoat their neighbors and divide them from other working-class communities.
This webinar features Tarso Luis Ramos of Political Research Associates in a conversation with Mark Schultz from the Land Stewardship Project in Minnesota and Rhonda Perry of the Missouri Rural Crisis Center. After an overview of xenophobic, white nationalist, and “alt-right” groups in the U.S., the speakers discuss successful models for organizing thousands of rural, white, working-class community members using explicit conversations about race and racism.

Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.

- 2. New York City philanthropist Jay Zises has endeavored to give back to his community through participation with the Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged (HELP). A former board member, Jay Zises helped found the organization in the mid-1980s. HELP prides itself on responding to the needs of the homeless community as the face of the situation evolves. Since 1986, the organization has assisted a quarter of a million people in need. Most recently, the Corporation for Supportive Housing recognized HELP's South Ward-area housing project in Newark with a Supportive Housing Project Award.
- 3. Domestic violence and homelessness are related. With the shortage of affordable housing in large urban areas, many women fear leaving abusive partners, as they often lack resources to support their families.
- 4. The following sobering statistics illustrate the gravity of this situation: -28% of homeless families cited domestic violence as the cause of their situation -39% of cities report domestic violence as the leading contributor among their homeless populations -63% of women without a permanent home say they have been a victim of domestic violence during their adult life.
- 5. In addition to housing and homeless prevention programs, HELP provides domestic violence services that assist survivors and address immediate needs by offering secure temporary housing, counseling, and employment support.
