The string section of an orchestra typically has the most players, sometimes over 60 musicians. There are four main string instruments: violins, violas, cellos, and harp. The cello is the third largest of the violin family and has the lowest notes, played with four thick strings. Violins are the smallest string instrument but most commonly heard in orchestras and other ensembles. Harps were originally inspired by hunters' bows over 5,000 years ago and now come in various shapes and sizes.
