A patient spent 9 months seeking a diagnosis for recurrent pneumonia which ultimately led to the discovery of a carcinoid tumor in his lung. However, due to the delayed diagnosis caused by the patient's inability to access and share health records across providers, the tumor proliferated and the patient had to have his entire right lung removed. The HITECH Act mandates physicians use electronic medical records (EMRs) with patient portals to improve health outcomes and reduce medical errors and costs. Studies show EMRs can decrease errors by 11-14% and improve efficiency by reducing transcription costs by 75% and admitting time in the ER by 80%. However, only 14% of patients with portal access actually use them due to lack of functionality and

Short Messaging Service (SMS) based Disease Surveillance Systemhackthequake
This document describes a Short Messaging Service (SMS)-based disease surveillance system to improve infectious disease monitoring and response in earthquake-affected areas. The system would use SMS to collect diagnostic and symptom data from health centers and detect outbreak patterns using algorithms. It would provide automated alerts and geospatial analysis to allow for timely public health interventions. The benefits of this near real-time SMS surveillance system over traditional paper-based methods include improved preparedness, evidence-based responses, and decreased mortality through more immediate response to outbreaks.
The document summarizes ChathamHealthLink, a health information exchange program in Chatham County, Georgia. It was formed by the Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council in 2004 to improve access to and quality of healthcare for uninsured county residents. The program allows different healthcare providers using separate electronic medical record systems to securely share patient information through a central database. This reduces duplication of services, improves care coordination, and allows providers and the Council to track health outcomes and service trends across the safety net system. The goal is for ChathamHealthLink to eventually connect all area providers, hospitals, and behavioral health organizations using interoperable electronic records.

What is the difference between EMR and EHR?ViSolve, Inc.
The document discusses the differences between electronic medical records (EMRs) and electronic health records (EHRs). EMRs contain a patient's medical history and records within a single practice, while EHRs have broader scope and allow information sharing between multiple healthcare providers. Specifically, EHRs include more detailed patient information that travels with the patient and can be accessed across different healthcare facilities, unlike EMRs which remain within one practice. In summary, the key difference is that EHRs have a wider scope than EMRs by facilitating information exchange between various care providers.

Plant Metabolism Studies: Options for Plant CultivationCovance
Regulators across the world are concerned with ensuring that any residues left in or on a crop after application of a plant protection product (PPP), present minimal risk to the health of humans and animals. The testing approaches used are harmonized across most countries worldwide, focusing on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Test Guidelines (TGs) for pesticide residue chemistry. This e-book paper focuses on the laboratory-based plant cultivation methods that underlie the success of OECD crop metabolism studies, namely TG 501 and 502.
This document outlines the timeline and key steps involved in obtaining biocide authorization, which can take up to 30 months to complete:
1) An initial data gap analysis is conducted to structure the product family, identify existing data, and determine what additional testing may be required.
2) Dossier preparation involves completing Iuclid datasets for the active substance and products, drafting supporting documents like exposure scenarios, and finalizing the dossier for submission via R4BP.
3) Translation of dossier documents may be required for mutual recognition applications in other countries in parallel to the primary authorization process.

These lecture slides, by Dr Sidra Arshad, offer a quick overview of the physiological basis of a normal electrocardiogram.
Learning objectives:
1. Define an electrocardiogram (ECG) and electrocardiography
2. Describe how dipoles generated by the heart produce the waveforms of the ECG
3. Describe the components of a normal electrocardiogram of a typical bipolar lead (limb II)
4. Differentiate between intervals and segments
5. Enlist some common indications for obtaining an ECG
6. Describe the flow of current around the heart during the cardiac cycle
7. Discuss the placement and polarity of the leads of electrocardiograph
8. Describe the normal electrocardiograms recorded from the limb leads and explain the physiological basis of the different records that are obtained
9. Define mean electrical vector (axis) of the heart and give the normal range
10. Define the mean QRS vector
11. Describe the axes of leads (hexagonal reference system)
12. Comprehend the vectorial analysis of the normal ECG
13. Determine the mean electrical axis of the ventricular QRS and appreciate the mean axis deviation
14. Explain the concepts of current of injury, J point, and their significance

Muktapishti is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation made from Shoditha Mukta (Purified Pearl), is believed to help regulate thyroid function and reduce symptoms of hyperthyroidism due to its cooling and balancing properties. Clinical evidence on its efficacy remains limited, necessitating further research to validate its therapeutic benefits.
Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
