A presentation delivered at the ONF Connect 2019 conference. Stratum is a next generation network operating system (NOS) for white box switches. It is primarily focused on supporting machine interfaces (P4RT, gNMI and gNOI) to automate network operations and enable user defining network element behavior with P4. Edgecore's Cassini platform unlike traditional white-box switches enables network operators to integrate the packet switching and optical technology worlds as well as easily extend and migrate existing metro and long-haul networks. PLVision will share the results of extending the Stratum NOS with optical transceivers configuration for Cassini chassis. This integration project involved: - Integration of ACO and DCO modules with the help of TAI library that provides an abstraction layer for optical data-source control; - Extension of Stratum's internal structures to support this new type of optical interfaces; - Implementation of Appropriate OpenConfig models for optical interfaces and modules as well as exposure of these models to the control plane via gNMI. As a result, Stratum is extended to support optical network equipment, enabling the support of Cassini chassis which is a key infrastructure element of ONF's ODTN exemplar platform. Although less than two years old, NFV has garnered the industry’s full attention and support. Moving swiftly, a number of key accomplishments have already taken place, and a lot more work is currently under way within ETSI NFV while we are embarking on its future phase. Various proofs-of-concepts (ranging from vEPC to vCPE, vIMS and vCDN) are being developed while issues such as open source and SDN are becoming key ingredients as the can play a pivotal role.
Dr. Christos Kolias' Bio: Christos Kolias is a senior research scientist at Orange Silicon Valley (a subsidiary of Orange). Christos is a co-founder of the ETSI NFV group and had led the formation of ONF’s Wireless & Mobile working group. He has lectured on NFV and SDN at several events. Christos has more than 15 years of experience in networking, he is the originator of Virtual Output Queueing (VOQ) used in packet switching. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA.

OPNFV: Overview and Approach to Upstream Integration
The OPNFV project—a common integration and testing platform to facilitate NFV deployments that defines a consistent, functional stack—differs from more traditional code-based open source projects in that its work is focused upstream. Rather than re-event many wheels, the project leverages a variety of existing code bases from leading open source projects across compute, storage, and networking and fills gaps where needed to meet strict carrier-grade end user requirements. This approach is difficult and requires an extremely complicated set of requirements, but the result is a much needed common, de facto platform for the industry to test and build NFV products and services. OPNFV director Heather Kirksey spoke during LinuxCon North America 2016 on why the community chose to take this integrated approach, what’s been successful, and key lessons learned from this unique project.
Summit 16: How to Compose a New OPNFV Solution Stack?
This session showcases how a new OPNFV solution stack (a.k.a. ""scenario"") is composed and stood up. We'll use a new solution stack framed around a new software forwarder (""VPP"") provided by the FD.io project as example for this session. The session discusses how an evolution/change of upstream components from OpenStack, OpenDaylight and FFD.io are put in place for the scenario, how installers and tests need to be evolved to allow for integration into OPNFV's continuous integration, deployment and test pipeline.

Open Ethernet: an open-source approach to modern network design
The era of closed proprietary hardware platforms is coming to an end. Today, in the world of Web-scale IT, the industry is starting to adopt new approach, based on the principles of openness, scalabilty and customizability. However, in more conservative networking industry, traditional equipment and proprietary technologies from a single vendor are often being used, which limits the flexibility, prevents innovation and narrows down the choice.
The "Open Ethernet" initiative from Mellanox brings open source principles into the world of modern networking and allows customers to select the best hardware and software to design network infrastructure, based on open and standard protocols and technologies, also opening the way for broad adoption of SDN.

Keynote Abstract: Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) envisions and promises to change the service provider landscape and has emerged as one of one of today’s significant trends. Although less than two years old, NFV has garnered the industry’s full attention and support. Moving swiftly, a number of key accomplishments have already taken place, and a lot more work is currently under way within ETSI NFV while we are embarking on its future phase. Various proofs-of-concepts (ranging from vEPC to vCPE, vIMS and vCDN) are being developed while issues such as open source and SDN are becoming key ingredients as the can play a pivotal role.
Dr. Christos Kolias' Bio: Christos Kolias is a senior research scientist at Orange Silicon Valley (a subsidiary of Orange). Christos is a co-founder of the ETSI NFV group and had led the formation of ONF’s Wireless & Mobile working group. He has lectured on NFV and SDN at several events. Christos has more than 15 years of experience in networking, he is the originator of Virtual Output Queueing (VOQ) used in packet switching. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA.

Implementing a logical modular for emulation flow, allowing the framework to auto-generate the hardware, the corresponding UVM verification environments, compile, emulate, and evaluate the whole MPSoC system.
Providing a lot of performance analyses for all different 2D and 3D router architectures with different network parameters and configurations under real traffic patterns injected by RISC-V PE that connected though a newly developed portable CNI.
OPNFV: Overview and Approach to Upstream Integration
The OPNFV project—a common integration and testing platform to facilitate NFV deployments that defines a consistent, functional stack—differs from more traditional code-based open source projects in that its work is focused upstream. Rather than re-event many wheels, the project leverages a variety of existing code bases from leading open source projects across compute, storage, and networking and fills gaps where needed to meet strict carrier-grade end user requirements. This approach is difficult and requires an extremely complicated set of requirements, but the result is a much needed common, de facto platform for the industry to test and build NFV products and services. OPNFV director Heather Kirksey spoke during LinuxCon North America 2016 on why the community chose to take this integrated approach, what’s been successful, and key lessons learned from this unique project.
Summit 16: How to Compose a New OPNFV Solution Stack?
This session showcases how a new OPNFV solution stack (a.k.a. ""scenario"") is composed and stood up. We'll use a new solution stack framed around a new software forwarder (""VPP"") provided by the FD.io project as example for this session. The session discusses how an evolution/change of upstream components from OpenStack, OpenDaylight and FFD.io are put in place for the scenario, how installers and tests need to be evolved to allow for integration into OPNFV's continuous integration, deployment and test pipeline.
