Women have an advantage in marketing careers due to differences in male and female brain structure and function. Female brains are better designed for communication and empathy due to lower levels of testosterone exposure in the womb. This makes women more sensitive to non-verbal cues and better able to understand others' perspectives. Additionally, women's brains have a more developed corpus callosum allowing them to integrate both logical and intuitive thinking which is beneficial for market research. As a result, female marketers tend to outperform their male counterparts.
This study examines how gender, purchase confidence, and internal knowledge influence consumer search behavior during different purchase situations. An online survey was administered and multivariate analysis was used to analyze the effects of gender, purchase confidence, and internal knowledge on sources of information selected. The results found that sources of information are perceived differently by males and females depending on their levels of purchase confidence and internal knowledge, and that the purchase situation influences what information sources they consider, such as a retail clerk, family/friends, or themselves.
The impact of private labeled products on consumer brand loyaltyMahir İstanbullu
This document summarizes a research study that investigated the influence of private label brands on customer loyalty and product category performance for a supermarket retailer. The study examined shopping data from over 100 stores generating $3 billion in annual sales. The findings showed that overall spending by loyal customers significantly impacted overall profitability. While private label brands can increase retailer profits, an overemphasis on private labels may diminish category performance as consumers prefer a variety of brand options. Maintaining a balance of private and national brands can help enhance category and store performance.
This document summarizes a research paper that analyzes supermarket pricing strategies. The paper uses a unique store-level dataset to estimate a discrete choice model of pricing strategy selection as a static game. The model addresses three questions: 1) How do local demographics influence strategy choice? 2) Do some chains have advantages for certain strategies? 3) How do firms react to rival strategies? The key finding is that firms tend to choose strategies that match their rivals rather than differentiate, contradicting theories viewing pricing strategy as differentiation.
This study investigated the impact of shelf level placement on product sales. A biscuit product was placed at three different shelf levels (knee-level, waist-to-shoulder level, and eye-level) for one month each in 10 small and medium retail stores. Weekly sales figures were recorded over 12 weeks. Analysis found that eye-level placement generated significantly higher average sales than the lower shelf levels. Placement at eye-level may increase product visibility and accessibility, leading to more impulse purchases and higher sales. The results provide additional evidence that shelf level impacts retail sales.
