Strategic decisions are made according to a company's goals and mission and involve significant risks and resources. They can take a company in new directions that may succeed or fail. Henry Mintzberg identified three modes of strategic decision making: entrepreneurial mode is led by an innovative individual, adaptive mode reacts to problems incrementally, and planning mode systematically analyzes opportunities and threats. Strategic intent is the long-term purpose an organization aims to achieve through its vision, mission, business definition, model, and goals. It guides the strategic management process by indicating the market position an organization desires.
