IBM is a market leader in big data and analytics solutions. This session explains the basics of Big Data, with actual use cases of clients who have benefited from IBM solutions in this space, followed by architectures with IBM BigInsights, BigSQL, Platform Symphony and Spectrum Scale.
IBM Watson, the cognitive technology that enhances, scales, & accelerates human expertise, is available to anyone through Bluemix, IBM’s PaaS. Watson's cognitive capabilities on Bluemix will enhance apps & help developers realize ideas not possible with today's systems.
Quick test, ask your phone “find anything but pizza restaurants”. Did you get back a list of pizza restaurants? Think about how we’ve been trained to keyword search. We have all been Google-fied & we may not even know it. Humans adapt their language, one that predates machines, to the limitations of a system.
But Watson is not a machine that lets us talk to it. It’s bigger, and that’s why this is a historic moment for developers, businesses & entrepreneurs. IBM is creating tools that can understand language, determine a personality portrait, expand concepts & more. In this session we will discuss & demo Watson Services on Bluemix & how developers can now embed these into their apps for unprecedented cognitive power.

The primary focus of this talk will be on covering multiple use cases and capturing relevant algorithms. Neural Networks (CNN,RNN etc), use cases and some current examples will also be touched upon. Heres your chance to understand the complete cycle of creating, deploying , evaluating and improving a Machine Learning model. This talk will also include what one can do to start contributing to open source Machine Learning libraries. Watch out for some tips and tricks that will be shared during the session.
Data Collection without Privacy Side EffectsJosep M. Pujol
Presented at WWW BIG 2016. Paper available at: http://josepmpujol.net/public/papers/big_green_tracker.pdf
Abstract: The standard approach to collect users’ activity data on the Web relies on server-side processing. This approach requires the presence of user-identifiers in order to aggregate data in sessions, which leads to tracking. Server-side aggregation is bound to produce side-effects because the scope of sessions cannot be safely limited to a particular use-case. We provide several examples of such side-effects.
To preserve privacy we propose an alternative approach based on client-side aggregation, where user-identifiers are not needed because sessions only exist on the client-side (i.e. the user’s browser). We demonstrate the feasibility of this approach by providing an implementation of a tracking agent – green-tracker – able to gather the data needed to power a service functionally equivalent to Google Analytics.
Outside the Comfort Zone: Cross Industry Use Cases in Big Data AnalyticsRising Media Ltd.
When it comes to high tech, we tend to wear blinders. We rarely look around to see how others succeed. This is especially true with organizations who want to look beyond basic BI and reveal answers to questions they never thought to ask. What would demand forecasting for a CMO in media mean to a CIO in banking? What would Proactive Customer Care in telecom mean to a Chief Revenue Officer at a global retailer? Let's dig into some cross industry use cases that will get you outside your comfort zone and allow you to take a different look at how applications of advanced and predictive analytics can help you act on new insights that transform your business.

Adaptive apps as the name suggests, anticipate and adapt to the needs of each customer to deliver more relevant and profitable interactions. By combining predictive analytics, big data, and APIs, they deliver individualized experiences that build strong, lasting relationships with customers. Adaptive apps promise to revolutionize how we imagine, design, and build apps and APIs for a wide variety of use cases.
In this track keynote, we’ll introduce the concept of a adaptive app, describe the opportunities they present, and discuss how you can start taking advantage of predictive analytics and APIs to accelerate your business.

In this webinar, Looker CEO, Frank Bien hosts a panel of BI experts including Cigna, Blue Apron and BuzzFeed, to discuss what he calls the “3rd Wave of BI”, and how you can ride it to win.
During the 1st wave of BI everyone had to wait for data and the insights they needed. The introduction of data visualization in the 2nd wave made it easy for anyone to grab data from anywhere and do it themselves. Today’s 3rd Wave of BI creates a common data language for your business, making it easy for anyone to find, explore and do more with data.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Frank Bien chat with a panel of BI experts to help you:
- Understand the current shift in BI tech
- Utilize 3rd wave trends in every aspect of your business
- Learn from others successfully riding the 3rd wave

Adjusting OpenMP PageRank : SHORT REPORT / NOTESSubhajit Sahu
For massive graphs that fit in RAM, but not in GPU memory, it is possible to take
advantage of a shared memory system with multiple CPUs, each with multiple cores, to
accelerate pagerank computation. If the NUMA architecture of the system is properly taken
into account with good vertex partitioning, the speedup can be significant. To take steps in
this direction, experiments are conducted to implement pagerank in OpenMP using two
different approaches, uniform and hybrid. The uniform approach runs all primitives required
for pagerank in OpenMP mode (with multiple threads). On the other hand, the hybrid
approach runs certain primitives in sequential mode (i.e., sumAt, multiply).

The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.

ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.
