This document outlines 18 scenes from a storyboard for a horror movie trailer. The scenes progress from establishing shots to build tension, without revealing details. Key events shown include Riley getting ready, a message left for her in red lipstick, her discovery of the villains in the bathroom mirror, a chase scene in the dark forest, and a cliffhanger of Riley screaming while being attacked. The storyboard aims to intrigue audiences and leave them wanting more without giving away the entire plot.

1. STORYBOARD

2. As you can see from above, the first scene of the storyboard
is a green screen which allows audiences to view the trailer
legally. As you can see at the bottom, my group published it
as ‘cutthroat’ which shows that the trailer belongs to us.
Scene One
We haven’t got any
description as the
screen is a plain green
and nothing happens
at this point in the
trailer. For example,
no action. We might
have some music
playing over the
opening title though.

3. Scene Two
Here is the opening scene of the trailer which will last
roughly two seconds long to allow the audience to get a
feel of what the movie is like and possible situations that
may occur in the movie. This scene will be shot from a
wide shot which will be slightly canted to add a horror
effect.
We’re going to interlink
the kitchen scene with
Riley getting ready in
her room which should
last approximately 5
seconds. They are all
going to be shot at a fast
pace to keep audiences
engaged.

4. Scene Three
This short scene is the company that our
production company works with. We currently
have no camera shots, movement or editing at
this point in the trailer.
We might have spoken
dialogue to make the
scene more effective
because it seems quite
dull at the moment.

5. Scene Four
This is scene four in the trailer, although the
storyboard is not chronological. This is the stories
narrative which theorist Vladimir Propp came up
with. This is the main dilemma in the movie which
moves the narrative forward.
This shot will be shot
using a wide angle, so that
viewers can get the
baseline of what the movie
is about. This is the
reason for the horrific
consequences that occur
in the movie.

6. 5.
Scene Five
There is a use of
blood and a weapon in
this scene which is
iconography. This is
symbolic as it is a
convention that is
generally used in
horror movies.
The weapon will be shot from a close up which
will highlight and may foreshadow later events
in the trailer/movie. This scene will last roughly
a couple of seconds long.

7. Scene Six 6.
This scene is of the final girl, Riley who is shot
from a close-up. She is screaming because two
stalkers are after her. We felt that having a close-up
of her screaming will add effect as audience
members will be left with a cliff hanger.
This short scene
should build up
tension towards
audiences and leave
them with a cliff
hanger. The scene
aims to last only a
couple of seconds
long.

8. Scene Seven
The close-up on the
villains ear creates a
mystery as we never
show the villain’s face
in the trailer until the
end. This is a
significant scene as
the friend of the villain
tell the villain that her
boyfriend tried to
touch Riley.
There will be eerie/ominous
music playing at this point to
create suspense.

9. Scene Eight
In this scene, the villain
leaves a message for
Riley, telling her to ‘watch
her back’ because her
boyfriend had touched
her. The message is in red
which coincides with the
iconography of blood.
The message left is written with a lipstick
which suggests that the villain may kill
Riley. There will be soft music playing
over this scene as a sound bridge. This
will create anticipation.

10. Scene Nine
This scene will consist of
the voice of Riley sounding
scared as she is shocked
at what the villain’s
message to her is. This
gives off an eerie era as
audiences do not know
what is going on as they
cannot see what is
happening in the scene as
it is a black screen.
The use of the black screen at this
point in the trailer will add effect to
the viewers watching it as it builds
up tension and interlinks to horror
as everything is dark.

11. Scene Ten
In this scene, Riley is in the
bath crying and a shadow
appears at her bathroom
window. Only audience
members can see this
figure in the background.
This builds up tension and
create apprehension as
Riley, the final girl is not
aware of her surroundings.
The music playing over the scene will be
of a nursery rhyme which is quite
disturbing for viewers to hear.

12. Scene Eleven
As Riley steps out of
the bath, she sees the
two villains that are
stalking her. She sees
them in the mirror first
and then turns around
to confront them.
There will be heartbeat sounds at
this point in the trailer which will
link to how Riley is feeling when
she sees the villains. This is a
convention of a horror trailer.

13. Scene Twelve
There will be spoken dialogue in
this scene of the trailer. Both the
villains and Riley will each have
only one line.
This scene will be
shot as a wide
shot to get every
character in the
scene. However it
will be shot from
an over the should
shot from the back
of Riley so that we
as viewers cannot
see the villains
face. We want to
keep it a mystery.

14. Scene Thirteen 13.
The place and
time the trailer is
shot at gives a
sense that you’re
being watched. In
this case, it links
to Riley as she is
being stalked.
Behind the writing will be a clear
simple background which can
suggest that Riley lives in an
ordinary area, however unusual
events occur.

Scene Fourteen
There will be screaming and
eerie music as this scene
commences as Riley is running
away from the villains.
This scene will be
very dark and
demonic. It will be
shot in a forest
with a tracking
shot of Riley and
the villains chasing
her. We aim to
track this shot
when it is dark to
create suspense.

16. 15.
Scene Fifteen
The female villain
attempts to stab Riley,
but the knife just
misses her. We still do
not see the villain’s
face which some
viewers may find
disturbing.
There will be a close up on
Riley’s face to show her
depressed emotions.

17. 16.
Scene Sixteen
In this scene, we finally
see the villain’s face in
which she is attempting
to slash Riley’s throat.
This scene will be shot with a mid shot. There will
be iconography of blood and a knife.

18. 17.
Scene Seventeen
There is a close up of
Riley screaming at this
point in the trailer. This
builds tension and
edges near a cliff
hanger for the trailer.
This will move from a close up
of Riley’s mouth to a black
screen. This will make viewers
apprehensive about what will
happen next.

19. 18.
Scene Eighteen
This is the final
scene of the trailer
in which is the
kitchen. Nobody
knows what has
happened to Riley,
so they have to go
and find out.
There will be sinister
music playing at this stage
of the trailer to being the
trailer to an end.
